MDAC2.8 installation problems and solutions

1. MDAC2.8 installation problem. A prompt appears during the installation process in Windows XP + SP2 environment: "mdac 2.8 Rtm is incompatible with this version of Windows".

Solution: Now all functions of MDAC2.8 have become part of windowsXPSP2. This prompt is normal and will not affect use. Your system is WINXP-SP2, and the system comes with MDAC 2.8 SP2, so you cannot install MDAC 2.8, and WINXP-SP2 cannot uninstall MDAC. It is a core component of the system. You can only upgrade your MDAC by installing subsequent versions of SERVICE PACK, and cannot scroll back to previous versions of MDAC. If you install and download MDAC Microsoft Data Access Component Version 2.8 and install it to the WINXP SP2 machine, you will receive the following error message. This version of mdac 2.8 Rtm is incompatible with your WINDOWS. Your system version is incompatible with the software version you are preparing to install. Method

1: Install MDAC 2.81 Method 1 Install MDAC 2.81 /data/mdac/downloads/ (/data/mdac/downloads/)
For information on how to install MDAC2.81, please visit. The MDAC2.8 SP1 distribution installation package and WINXP SP2 are installed with the same data access component. Method
2: Repair the MDAC 2.81 installation that is included with Windows XP SP2 Method 2 Patch the MDAC 2.81 installation that comes with WINXP SP2 If you cannot see the INF directory of WINDOWS, proceed to the following steps, click Start My Computer Tools Menu Folder Options b. Click View c. Under Advanced Settings, click Show hidden files and folders d. Remove the extension option for hiding known files e. Click Apply Click Confirm

2. In the INF directory of WINDOWS, right-click and select Install
3. When you are prompted to insert the WINXP SP2 CD, select the following method: Insert the CD to the CD drive. If the welcome message is displayed, click Exit
b. Click the browse button
c. Enter the CD drive letter in the file name, including the I386 directory. If your CD drive is D disk, enter D:\WINXP
d. Click Open or directly enter %systemroot%\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 Click Open. You may also prompt you to insert the WINXP SP2 CD for system installation. The same steps as above. I guess this should also solve the problem of ADO database access. The data access core components installed in MDAC 2.8 SP1 are the same as Microsoft SQL Server OLE DB Provider, ODBC Driver. The final redistributed installer for MDAC 2.8 SP1 installs the same core components of Data Access as Microsoft Windows XP SP2. /?scid=kb;en-us;899861 This release does not include Microsoft Jet, Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider, Desktop Database Drivers ODBC Driver, or Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver.
