Opening 6 Server Power
Server Power Overview
Server power is a power supply (POWER) used on the server. Like PC (personal computer) power supply, it is a switching power supply. On the other hand, the security of server hardware and the stability of the system require a high-quality power supply to ensure. Therefore, like other server-specific hardware, the power supply must also be "serverized"! We know that the power supply of ordinary PCs is divided into ATX and TX power supply (TX power supply has been eliminated now); and server power supply is divided into ATX and SSI power supply according to the standards. Among them, the ATX standard is more common, mainly used for desktop computers, workstations and low-end servers; while SSI is suitable for servers of all grades.
1. ATX power supply
The ATX standard is a specification launched by Intel in 1997, with output power generally ranging from 125 watts to 350 watts. ATX power supplies usually use 20Pin (20pin) dual-row rectangular sockets to power the motherboard. With Intel launching the Pentium4 processor, the power supply specification has also been modified from ATX to ATX12V. Compared with ATX power supply, the ATX12V power supply mainly adds a 4Pin 12V power supply output to better meet the power supply requirements of the P4 processor.

Tip: A qualified power supply should pass safety and electromagnetic certification, such as meeting CCEE and FCC-B standards, and the certification marks of these standards should be reflected on the surface of the power supply.
2. SSI power supply
The SSI (Server System Infrastructure) specification is a new server power supply specification launched by Intel and some major IA architecture server manufacturers. The launch of the SSI specification was formulated to standardize server power technology, reduce development costs, and extend the service life of the server. It mainly includes server power specifications, backplane system specifications, server chassis system specifications and cooling system specifications. It can be subdivided into four sub-species: TPS, EPS, MPS, and DPS.
Technical indicators about server power supply
1. Multi-country certification marks: High-quality power supplies have certification marks such as FCC, US UR and China Great Wall. The certification has strictly formulated standards in production processes, electromagnetic interference, safety protection, etc., and has a certain authoritative level.
2. Voltage holding time: The holding time of a high-quality power supply can reach 12-18ms, ensuring normal power supply during UPS switching.
3. Electromagnetic interference: There are international standards for FCC A and FCC B, and there are also national standards for A (industrial grade) and national standards for B (home appliance grade) in China. High-quality power supplies can pass the B standard.
4. Power supply life: The general power supply life is calculated based on the possible failure period of the component according to 3-5 years, and the average working time is between 80,000-100,000 hours.
In addition, there are many technical indicators such as power efficiency, overvoltage protection, power-on delay, noise and filtering, instantaneous response capability, etc. to fully ensure the reliability of the server power supply!
Suggestions for purchasing server power supply
1. Safety certification is an important indicator for us to purchase power supplies, which should be the most important point when we choose power supplies. Because it is related to our safety and health. Bad power supplies are very noisy and have an impact on the human body. Saving a few hundred dollars in this regard is not worth the loss.
2. In terms of power selection, it is enough for individual users to choose 300W, while for servers, because they have to face upgrades and increasing disk arrays, they need to support it with greater power. For this reason, it should be more appropriate to use a 400W power supply and above.
In addition, the server power supply support for the motherboard should also be considered, whether redundant power supply is required, and voltage holding time should be considered.
Summarize:
Although there are currently two standards for server power supply, ATX and SSI, as the SSI standards become more standardized, SSI specifications are more suitable for the development of servers, and future server power supply will also adopt SSI specifications. In actual choices, everyone should make different choices of server power supply according to different applications.

Opening 7 Server Chassis
Server Chassis Overview
The needs of enterprise users are significantly different from those of ordinary home users, which makes their server singles much more special in appearance than ordinary PCs. Server chassis usually has additional functions that are not available in ordinary chassis or medium-sized tower chassis to ensure that the server can operate normally for a long time. Therefore, choosing a suitable chassis product is of great significance to the normal and stable application of the server system.
Enterprise Server Chassis
1. Talk
For the choice of server chassis, cooling, redundancy and reliability are three indispensable elements. An excellent server chassis must have outstanding performance in these three aspects. However, the very important appearance in the PC chassis is flashy and useless in the server chassis.
1. The server requires 24 hours of operation over the years, so the requirements for system stability even exceed performance. Heat is the number one enemy for the long-term and stable operation of the host. In the small space of the rack-mounted server, it also contains high-frequency CPUs, dedicated memory and SCSI hard disks and other hot-generating manufacturers. In this case, the server chassis is usually equipped with multiple large-diameter turbo fans to ensure air circulation in the front and rear directions of the chassis and take away heat in time. The professional server chassis is specially equipped with redundant fans. When a fan stops during operation or the speed is too low, the backup fan can immediately start and replace the faulty fan to ensure normal heat dissipation of the system.
2. Whether it is PC or server, power supply is a well-deserved source of power. As the heart of the entire system, the professional server chassis will also adopt the design of redundant power supply. When one power supply fails or the output voltage is abnormal, the other power supply will automatically take over it immediately to ensure the normal operation of the system.
3. In addition, the material use of the chassis is also very important. The thickness of the steel plate and the quality of the material are directly reflected in the ability to shield electromagnetic interference and ensure the stable operation of the system.
2. Characteristics and perspectives
1. Power supply part. Dual power systems are very important for enterprise network servers. Today's server chassis can replace the problematic power supply without shutting down the server without shutting down the server for debugging; this is a huge improvement, because shutting down the server under normal circumstances will affect many users.
2. System fan part. To ensure that the server is operating normally throughout the day, it is necessary to ensure that all components work at normal temperatures. Server chassis usually requires multiple cooling fans in critical locations to ensure air circulation in the chassis.
3. Drive expansion slot. A good server chassis should fully consider its upgrade capabilities. A server chassis usually requires sufficient drive expansion slots to meet current use and future upgrade requirements. For example, the 3.5" expansion slot (floppy drive/ZIP drive) and the 5.25" expansion slot can install optical drives and tape drives, and of course multiple hard disks can be configured.
