According to Microsoft's release plan, Windows Server 2007, code-named Longhorn, will release its last important test version of Beta 3 this month, but the first thing that appears in front of the testers is a new Community Preview (CTP).
Windows Server The compiled version number of the April CTP version of Windows Server 2007 is still the Build 6001 series, to be precise, it is "6001-16497-070330-1720", its x86 version file name "wsl_6001-16497-070330-1720_x86fre_server-KB3SFRE_EN_DVD.iso", and the x64 version file name "wsl_6001-16497-070330-1720_x64fre_server-KB3SxFRE_EN_DVD.iso".
Helene Love Snell, senior product director at Microsoft, said: "This CTP version is to allow testers to conduct better testing and evaluation to confirm whether the various features and functions of Beta 3 are ready. The Beta 3 version is still scheduled to be released in the first half of this year, including a series of enhanced features and interface changes, the most important of which are server management tools, PowerShell command lines, and virtual servers."
Windows Server 2007 is expected to be officially released in the second half of this year, replacing Windows Server 2003. Four years later, Microsoft will launch the next generation of Windows Server "Vienna", which should be named Windows Sever 2011 as usual.
