Explanation of how to use GHOST for SATA hard drive

Many friends have asked whether SATA hard drives can use GHOST. When using GHOST to backup the system, they may have encountered this situation.
After starting the system with a floppy disk or CD, the system screen is black after using the command and it crashes. Is GHOST not supporting SATA devices?
Can't we make a backup of the system after using the SATA hard drive? The answer is no, SATA hard drive can also be used for cloning, but in operation
It takes a little trick.
First, let’s analyze why the system crashes under normal circumstances. Generally speaking, the SATA hard drive motherboards use I865PE (North Bridge)
+ ICH5R (South Bridge) chipset, but due to the limitations of the ICH5R south bridge chip itself, under the use of WIN9X, WINNT, and DOS systems, one of the IDE channels is
It will not be used, which is why the system stops responding after we start GHOST, because at this time GHOST cannot determine which set of IDEs are available in the system.
Once we know the reason, we can prescribe the right medicine. Generally, the BIOS of the 865 motherboard provides an option to block a set of IDE channels, so that the system can only
I recognize the second group of IDE channels, and I will press ASUS below
P4P800 motherboard is an example to explain the operation method in detail: (The following methods are all in CD boot mode)
1、
A SATA hard disk is hung on the SATA1 interface, and a CDROM is hung on the PRIMARY IDE interface (set as main disk):
 a)
Turn on the computer and enter the BIOS settings, select IDE Configuration in the MAIN menu
b) Onboard IDE Operate
Mode is changed to Compatible Mode
c) Select [Primary  in [Enhanced Mode Support On]
P-ATA+S-ATA]
d) After restarting and entering the BIOS, you will find that there are only 4 IDE devices in the MAIN menu, [Primary IDE
MASTER] is [CDROM],
[Primary IDE Slave] is [NONE], [Secondary IDE Master] is [IDE
DISK] (the model of your hard drive),
[[Secondary IDE Slave] is [NONE]
 e)
After starting the DOS with the CD, run GHOST
2. A SATA hard disk is hung on the SATA1 interface, and a CDROM is hung on SECONDARY
IDE interface:
Just change [Primary P-ATA+S-ATA] in the third step above to [Secondary
P-ATA+S-ATA], it's fine, the system will
SATA1 and SATA2 devices are used as [Primary IDE Master] and [Primary IDE
Slave]。
3、
If you use a motherboard that supports SATA but do not use a SATA device, some motherboard BIOS still have the SATA channel turned on by default.
At this time, using GHOST to back up the system will also lead to black screen, so we also need to set it in the BIOS to block the SATA channel.
Or in the third step in the first case, [Primary
P-ATA+S-ATA] is changed to [P-ATA Ports
Only], the system will block SATA device at this time.
You can use it as a normal motherboard without SATA devices.
The above is a summary of some small experiences I have when using SATA equipment and GHOST. I hope it will be useful to everyone.
The same settings are also given for motherboards of other models, but the options inside are not as rich as ASUS.
