Two methods of setting up an FTP server in detail

In the above introduction, we assume that the server has a fixed IP of 218.1.1.1. In fact, most users who want to set up personal FTP usually use adsl and other methods to dial up the Internet. Since the IP addresses assigned to each dial-up and surf the Internet are different, does this mean that the FTP server cannot be set up?

There are two solutions: one is to leave blank in the "Your IP Address" in the wizard just now, and then complete other wizard settings. Enter the main interface of Serv-U, first click "Help → Local IP Address" on the menu bar, copy the local IP address, and then inform each user through other channels. This operation is repeated every time you dial-up online; the second is to download and install a dynamic IP domain name resolution software online, such as foreign dns2Go, domestic peanut shell, 88IP, etc. This type of software can automatically resolve a fixed domain name to the native IP regardless of how the IP of the machine changes. In this way, users can access your server by simply entering this fixed domain name as the FTP address. Obviously, the first method is quite troublesome and requires you to have great patience, and the second method is quite simple. Users only need to remember this domain name without caring about whether the IP changes. The only drawback is that most of these software currently require paid registration to be used permanently, and they can only be used for 30 days without registration.

Let’s take 88IP as an example to understand its settings.

Suppose we want to apply for a domain name: dys1. First, set up the FTP server with Serv-U (IIS and other FTP server software is also possible) as mentioned above, please leave "your IP address" blank, and then go to http// to download and install the 88IP standard version.

88IP requires paid registration to own a permanent domain name. If you register for free, you can only try for 15 days. Run the 88IP standard version client and a settings window will pop up. To obtain a domain name, you need to register first. In "Basic Information", fill in the user login name, valid email address, password and contact number in turn. Next, you need to select your domain name. In "Domain Name Information", fill in dys2 in the "Domain Name" box, and select "" in the "Domain Name Suffix" drop-down box. At this time, the "Your full domain name is" below will be displayed as dys1. After confirming that it is correct, click the "Register" button to register. If the registered username or the applied domain name has been registered by other users, the software will make corresponding prompts and register again after modification. After the registration is successful, "Register successful, User ID: XXXXXXXX" will be displayed in the "Execution Status". Note the user ID for future payments or need technical support. Finally, click the "Load" button to load the account information that has just been successfully applied to this machine.
