Clonezilla is a good system cloning tool. It is based on Partimage and draws on the advantages of Norton Ghost and Partition Image. That is, it not only supports cloning the entire system, but also cloning a single partition. This flexibility may be more suitable for the needs of backup users. FAT, FAT32, NTFS file systems that support GNU/Linux ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs and Windows. Clonezilla supports Multicast cloning using PXEBoot. This is extremely useful for users who need to clone a large number of systems. Open source software!
Clonezilla has a significant advantage over Ghost For Linux (G4L for short) that Clonezilla supports more file system formats than G4L, Clonezilla only backs up data, while G4L backs up the entire partition (that is, contains empty data), so G4L will occupy more space for storing backup images than Clonezilla.
Clonezilla (Regenerated Dragon) Features:
* Free software, developed by the State Grid Center.
* A variety of operating systems can be restored and reproduced, including Linux (ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs), Microsoft Windows (fat, ntfs)
* Support LVM2 under GNU/Linux (LVM1 has not been supported yet)
* Support multicast. With PXE network boot, Clonezilla with DRBL can use multicast method, which is suitable for large backup and restore. When the hardware device functions are sufficient (the user supports Wake on LAN and PXE), it can be operated remotely, and people do not need to go to the site when the hardware device functions are sufficient (the user supports Wake on LAN and PXE), it can be operated remotely, and people do not need to go to the site.
* Unlike Partimage or ntfsclone, Clonezilla includes writing and integration of other programs, so you can back up and copy the partition or the entire hard disk.
* Different to G4U or G4L, in the Clonezilla environment, the supported archive systems (ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs, fat, ntfs) only backups the hard disk space with stored information, so it can save backup time and hard disk space. Other unsupported archive systems, Clonezilla, are processed in the DD mode.
* Through another set of free software drbl-winroll developed by this laboratory, you can specify the host name and work group of Microsoft Windows after restoration, and you can also write a random SID.
* There is also a stand-alone version of the installation-free restore system Clonezilla Live that can be used.
Update log:
- Updated with clonezilla 2.2.1-14. It will skip mounting ntfs partition when "-g auto" is used. Since grub files won't be in ntfs parttiion. This will avoid some problem sometimes.
