How to convert Win 2003 to PC version system

Compared with workstation systems, the server has greatly improved its stability and security due to more kernel optimizations. However, many people do not need all the functions of the Server, and the Server system shuts down the services required by certain workstation systems. Below, we will introduce how to optimize Windows Server 2003 and convert it into a workstation system. 1. Disable the Configuration Server Wizard

Since the server setting function is not required, we first disable the "Configure Your Server" wizard. You can run it in the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Manage Your Server, and then check "Don't display this page at logon" in the lower left corner of the window.

2. Create a new user account

Windows Server 2003 does not support a login welcome screen similar to Windows XP. You can create a new user account with your personality after entering the system for the first time.

Open Start -> Run -> Type " , and you will see Local Users and Groups.

Right-click on "Users" in the left window and select "New User". Enter account information in the pop-up dialog box, and then click "Great". This way your account will be available. Of course, you can choose to add your account to the administrator group and right-click on your new user. Then select "Properties" -> Click "Affiliate" on Member of tab -> "Add" Add.. -> "Advanced" -> "Find Now" Find Now.

Double-click Administrators in the Find Results dialog box, close Local Users and Groups window after clicking "Ok" twice. Now you will be able to log out the Administrator user and log in to the system with your own account.

3. Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security

IE security plug-in that appears as a new windows component - Internet Explorer Enhanced Security sets your IE security to the highest by default. In this way, you will pop up an inquiry box when visiting the site and block your browsing of web pages and file downloads. We don't actually need this component.

First, we prohibit the appearance of the inquiry box. In the pop-up dialog box, check "Do not display this message" (In the future, do not show this message).

We can then customize the security level of IE in the IE tool options. Pull the scroll bar on the "Security" tab to set Internet Area Security to "Medium". This level will be suitable for most people. If you have special requirements, this step will not be suitable for you.

With IE security settings, you can now install Sun's Java VM!

Of course, you can even uninstall Internet Explorer Enhanced Security in Control Panel - Add Programs - Add or Remove Windows Components.

4. Install Java VM

Windows server 2003 does not have an integrated MS Java VM or Sun Java VM, you can download and install it yourself.

5. Disable shutdown event tracking

Shutdown Event Tracker is also a setting that distinguishes Windows server 2003 from other workstation systems. This is a necessary choice for the server, but it is useless for the workstation system. We can also prohibit it.

Open "Start ->"Run ->Input", in the left part of the window that appears, select "Computer Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System", and in the right window, double-click "Shutdown Event Tracker".

Select "Disabled" in the dialog box that appears, click "OK" and then save and exit.

This way, you will see a shutdown window similar to Windows 2000

6. Enable hardware and DirectX acceleration

Hardware acceleration: Right-click on the desktop - Properties -> Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot. Pull the hardware acceleration scroll bar of the page to "Full", and it is best to click "OK" to save and exit. It is completely normal that a black screen may occur for a moment during this period.

DirectX acceleration: Open "Start" -> "Run", type "dxdiag" and press Enter to open "DirectX Tools", on the "Display" page, click the three buttons for DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture acceleration to enable acceleration.

7. Allow sound acceleration

If you are using Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, please follow the second step because the Standard Edition has allowed sound services.

Open Start -> Run, type " , find "Windows Audio" in the window that appears and double-click it, then select "Automatic" in the drop-down menu in startup type, and click "Apply" -> "Start" -> "OK"

Open Start -> Run, type "dxdiag" and press Enter to open "DirectX Tools", and on the "Sound" page, pull the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" scroll bar to "Full Acceleration".

8. Enable desktop themes

Maybe if you are tired of the classic desktop of WINDOWS, you have to consider enabling desktop themes. Windows server 2003 turns off this service by default.

Open "Start" -> "Run", type "", find the Themes service in the window that appears and double-click it, then select "Automatic" in the drop-down menu of startup type, and click "Apply" -> "Start" -> "OK".

This operation can only allow you to use the three modes of Luna themes that come with Windows. If you want to use more third-party theme files, you need to use modified files to support it. For modified files, you can find more in/.

Note: As for how to replace the question, this site has answered it N times. If you need to know, please check your previous posts.

9. Allow built-in IMAPI CD-Burning service and support for Windows imaging device services

If you want to enable the built-in IMAPI CD-Burning service on Windows. Do the following:

Open Start -> Run, type " , find " IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service " in the window that appears and double-click it, then select "Automatic" in the drop-down menu in the startup type, and click "Apply" -> "Start" -> "OK".

If you have imaging devices such as digital cameras and scanners, you should turn on the Windows Image Acquisition service.

Open Start -> Run, type " , find "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" in the window that appears and double-click it, then select "Automatic" in the drop-down menu in the startup type, and click "Apply" -> "Start" -> "OK"

10. Advanced settings

We can modify some advanced settings of Windows Server 2003 to suit the application environment of the workstation.

Right-click on "My Computer" - Properties - Advanced - Performance - Setting - Advanced, and assign "Processor schedule" and Memory usage to "Programs" for use. Then click OK (OK.)

Disable Error Reporting

Right-click "My Computer" - Properties - Advanced - Click the "Error Reporting" button, select "Disable Error Reporting" in the window that appears and select "But, notify me when critical errors occur."

Adjust virtual memory

The virtual memory required for Windows to run normally exists as the "backup force" of physical memory. Although the hard disk is not as good as memory in terms of running speed, memory cannot be compared with the hard disk in terms of capacity. So we have always believed that the larger the virtual memory, the better. In fact, this is not the case. Especially when Windows server 2003 is installed as a workstation, we can try to disable virtual memory. The premise is that you must have more than 512M physical memory. Many friends are worried that if virtual memory is disabled, the system will not be unable to standby and sleep normally like in Windows 9x environment. In fact, this will not be the case, because starting from Windows XP, its virtual memory (i.e.,) is dedicated to data exchange. The data is still retained in physical memory during standby mode. The sleep mode also has its own dedicated sleep file (), so there will definitely be no problem that the system cannot sleep. Some friends who use Windows server 2003 are often helpless about its slow shutdown and logout. My personal solution here is to disable virtual memory, so that your logout and shutdown time may be much faster. I did a test today. When the virtual memory is loaded, the time for the user to log in to Windows is 3 seconds, and the time for the shutdown is 23 seconds. However, the time for logging out and re-login is reduced to 2 seconds with virtual memory disabled, and the time for shutdown is reduced to 3 seconds.

Right-click "My Computer" - Properties - Advanced - Performance - Setting - Advanced, click "Change" in the "Virtual memory" section, and then select "No paging file" in the window that appears. Just restart the system.

Note: There is no problem with adjusting the virtual memory section after personal testing, but it is not guaranteed to be the same on your machine, so I am not responsible for any consequences caused by this setup. It is only recommended that friends who have complaints about the shutdown speed of Windows Server 2003 try it.

11. Automatic login

Windows Server 2003 uses the "CTRL-ALT-DEL to login" dialog box to log in to Windows, but we can use the Tweak UI of Windows XP to make Server 2003 automatically log in.

Download Tweak UI software

Execute directly after downloading

Select Logon -> Autologon -> Check Log on automatically at system startup Enter your username and domain name (if not, please do not write it)

Click Set Password below, enter the password of the username, and then click OK.

Although the same function can be accomplished by modifying the registry, the password of the method of modifying the registry is manifested in plaintext in the registry, and the Tweak UI will not leave a plaintext password in the registry, so it is recommended to use Tweak UI to complete this work.

12. Install DirectX 9a

Installing DirectX 9a on Windows Server 2003 is the same as installing DirectX 9a on other versions of Windows. Enable DirectX and Graphics Acceleration before installation.

Download: DirectX 9.0a Websetup

Run the file and start the installation, it is just a installation wizard, and about 6.9 MB of files will be downloaded during the installation process.

The system needs to be restarted after the installation is completed.

13. Hide files

Windows Server 2003 displays all folders by default. If you don't want this, you can hide them by following the following methods:

Open any folder, select Tools -> Folder Options -> View, select Do not show hidden files and folders, and click OK.

In Windows Server 2003, Windows Media Player 9 has been installed, click Start->Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Windows Media Player to open it.
