Common commands for Win2KWinXP network display configuration

Use netstat to display connection statistics
The protocol statistics and current TCP/IP connection can be displayed using the netstat command. The netstat -a command will display all connections, while netstat -r will display the routing table and active connections. The netstat -e command displays Ethernet statistics, while netstat -s displays statistics for each protocol. If you use netstat -n, you cannot convert the address and port number to a name.
Tracert is a routing tracing utility that determines the path taken by IP datagram access targets. The Tracert command uses the IP Time to Live (TTL) field and an ICMP error message to determine the route from one host to other hosts on the network.
-d Specifies that the IP address is not resolved to the host name.
-h maximum_hops Specifies the number of hops to track the route to the host called target_name.
-j host-list Specifies the list of router interfaces in the path used by the Tracert utility packet.
-w timeout Waiting timeout The number of milliseconds specified for each reply.
target_name The name or IP address of the target host.
The pathping command is a routing tracking tool that combines the functionality of the ping and tracert commands with other information that these two tools do not provide. The pathping command sends the packet to each router on the path to the final destination over a period of time, and then returns from each hop based on the packet's computer results. Since the command shows the extent to which packets are lost on any given router or link, it is easy to determine the router or link that may cause network problems.
-n Hostnames does not resolve the address to the hostname.
-h Maximum hops Search the maximum number of hops for the target.
-g Host-list Free source routes along the route list.
-p The number of milliseconds to wait between pings.
-q Num_queries Number of queries per hop.
-w Time-out is the number of milliseconds waiting for each reply.
-T Layer 2 tag Connects the Layer 2 priority tag (for example, for IEEE 802.1p) to the packet and sends it to each network device in the path. This helps identify network devices that do not have the Layer 2 priority configured correctly. The -T switch is used to test quality of service (QoS) connectivity.
-R RSVP test Che Check to determine whether each router in the path supports Resource Retention Protocol (RSVP), which allows the host to reserve a certain amount of bandwidth for the data stream. The -R switch is used to test quality of service (QoS) connectivity.
Use DHCP commands interactively at the command prompt
Open the command prompt.
Type netsh.
Type "dhcp" in the netsh>Netshell) command prompt line.
In the dhcp> (DHCP Helper) command prompt line, type server \\servername or server ip_address for the server you want to manage.
Once the server you have permission to manage has been successfully connected, you will see "You can read and write access to the server servername"
Once the connection is successful, you can use any supported Netshell commands for DHCP. Type /? or help to display the direct DHCP subcommand menu or as an option, and type list to list all Netshell subcommands that can be used with DHCP.
