Three tricks to quickly repair damaged hidden partitions

When there is a logic error in the hard disk, you usually choose the system-owned Scandisk or Chkdsk for checking. If it cannot be solved, it must be reformatted. However, if the problem cannot be solved after formatting, you can only repartition. Of course there is no problem with re-partitioning an ordinary hard disk, but what if it is a laptop hard disk?

Why can't you adjust the partition at will?

Many laptops now provide convenient operating system recovery functions, which can help users recover quickly when an unexpected system occurs. The HPA technology of IBM laptops is a classic example of this technology, but do you know that this function occupies a hidden partition in the laptop hard disk, and once the hard disk partition is adjusted using partition tools such as PQ Magic, the link to the hidden partition of the hard disk will be destroyed. The IBM system restore function "disappeared". Pressing the "Access IBM" key when powering on can originally enter the IBM restore menu, but now an error message of "Missing operating system" appears.

Hidden partition damage is a soft fault

After contacting IBM's customer service center "Blue Express", I learned that this fault is in the category of software failure and is not included in the warranty. It costs about 200 yuan to recreate the hidden partition by the maintenance department. There is no way, who made me feel idle and partitioned? However, I was still unwilling to spend the money and decided to try it out by myself.

After searching from Google from multiple sources, I finally found two solutions. My IBM laptop is finally expected to get rid of my disability.

1. First try IBM repair tools

Download and install IBM Rescue and Recovery v2.04.0182 on the official IBM website. After running, you can find the location of the hidden partition and automatically associate it with "Access IBM". Restart after the repair work is completed. If the partition link is just broken, it can be repaired now.

2. Engrave an IBM system recovery boot disk

After entering Windows, click the menu "Start → Programs → Access IBM", and there is a sub-menu item called "Create Rescue Media". The so-called "rescue media" is a boot disk that can help machines that have lost the recovery boot function to boot to the restore menu. After clicking this menu item, press the prompt to select "CD" or "USB hard drive". It is recommended to use the CD option (the burner optical drive must be installed on the machine). Put the burner into the burner and click "OK" to start burning. After the burning is complete, click "OK". Leave the engraved CD in the optical drive (must be a bootable optical drive letter) and restart, press the F12 key, select the optical drive to boot and press Enter, and the long-lost IBM recovery system appears again.

3. The ultimate winning disc

If it is very unfortunate, not only will the startup link to the hidden partition be destroyed, but the hidden partition is not even spared. The two methods just now were powerless. We must create a set of "Product Recovery" discs, which are used to erase the contents of the hard disk and recreate the contents of the laptop hard disk when it was shipped from the factory. The number of disks required depends on different models. Taking CD disks as an example, T42 requires 4, while R51 requires 7.

Select "Start → Programs → Access IBM → Create recovery disk", and burn according to the prompts. Due to copyright protection, this set of CDs is only allowed to be burned once, so it is recommended that you use a better quality recording disk and save it properly.
