Alternative tricks to get your ADSL to go full speed

The first trick: solve the interference

A friend's network has always been normal, but there has been some strange failure recently. The Internet is generally normal during the day, but the "big cat" often stops flowing at night. He unloaded the computer several times and checked the ADSL line N times, but it was useless. Just when he was almost desperate, a friend told him that you could try it by changing the computer, and the "big cat" turned out to be normal. It's not normal to switch back to the original position. What is the reason? Seeing my friend's newly equipped air conditioner roaring, I thought to myself, is it the culprit? So I turned off the air conditioner and the network immediately returned to normal. It turns out that during peak electricity consumption, the power of the air conditioner is relatively large, which causes the line voltage to be too low. At the same time, the air conditioner and the computer's current circuit are connected, which interferes with the "big cat"'s work, resulting in the inability to access the Internet normally. I found that with the popularity of high-power electrical appliances (such as air conditioners and microwave ovens), and the failure of old lines to be modified in time, similar failures are becoming more and more common. Because broadband requires high interference and power supply stability. Therefore, it must be transformed.

1. Pull the wire separately from the power distribution board

It is of course the most ideal to pull the wires separately from the low-voltage distribution board under the user's transformer. Secondly, pull the dedicated wires from the main distribution cabinet of the unit building. Be careful to avoid high-power electrical equipment. Since the current loop is independent, it avoids mixing with the current loops of other electrical appliances, thereby effectively reducing interference and achieving mutual isolation. In fact, when using high-power electrical equipment, we are required to use dedicated lines, but most people don’t care. If you have the conditions, you can also choose a power purification equipment to purify the power supply, which has better results.

2. The power supply of "Big Cat" should be used with a separate socket, and do not share the same socket with other devices.

I often see posts online about power failures, and some technicians recommend using sockets separately. Some netizens also believe that the power supply quality of "big cats" is generally poor and has particularly poor anti-interference ability, especially the long-term use of heat causes severe heat, causing equipment failure. Therefore, it is recommended to switch to a high-quality voltage-regulating power supply (it is just relatively expensive).

3. Good shielding and grounding of the equipment (including the host)

Have you ever tried making a phone call next to the "big cat"? The interference of the mobile phone when retrieving the call is enough to disconnect the network from a certain distance. There are many similar electrical appliances now. In addition to being careful not to get close to the "big cat", are there any active protective measures? Of course there is! We can shield the "big cat" with tin sheet and ground the shield. When grounding, be sure to be careful not to connect it to the tap water pipe or lightning rod thread, otherwise it will cause greater interference. If you don’t believe it, you can use an oscilloscope to measure it, the interference on them is very large. Therefore, it is best to use a separate ground wire. Friends who do not have electrician knowledge must ask an expert to help you connect the ground wire. Otherwise, it will cause interference to the equipment at the least, and at the worst, it will endanger the equipment or personal safety. Friends who have not grounded the host, must connect the grounding wire at this time. Don’t forget that the host also uses electrical appliances and will also cause interference to the equipment.

The second trick: choose the "big cat"

ADSL speed is much higher than dial-up Internet access, so the requirements for "big cats" are even higher. Unfortunately, the "big cats" given by telecom in some places are not easy to use. Under the same conditions, with the help of my friends from the Telecommunications Bureau, I used the "Big Cat" given by Omnidirectional 1680 and Telecom to conduct an experiment, and found that the Internet speed of the former is much higher than the latter. When asked about the reason, the friend smiled: Maybe it was because of the price. If possible, you might as well use some big brand modem.

1. Main chip

When choosing a "big cat", you must first pay attention to the main chip it uses. I recommend "Big Cat" that uses Conexant chips. When using dial-up to surf the Internet, everyone is familiar with Rockwell. Its speed and stability have always been praised by everyone. In fact, Rockwell semiconductor system is a subsidiary of Rockwell that specializes in providing products for the communication chip market. It has now been renamed Conexant.

2. Compatibility

Before purchasing, it is best to ask the Telecommunications Bureau about the type of local equipment it uses, the protocol it uses, VCI, VPI and other values to determine whether it is compatible with the "Big Cat" you purchased. Some "big cats" have poor compatibility with local devices, which makes them unable to access the Internet at all. This problem will also occur during normal Internet access, if the ISP's local device is changed. There is a netizen who has been using broadband for nearly half a year. Recently, there is an abnormality, which is that it is often disconnected and then resynchronized. It is very frequent. At most, it is disconnected 5 to 6 times in 10 minutes, and at least it is once every 2 to 3 hours, and most of the time it is once every 20 to 30 minutes, which greatly affects work. What's going on? It turned out that the Telecommunications Bureau upgraded the bureau-end equipment. After downloading the Firmware version refresh program to refresh the "Big Cat", the problem was completely solved. Therefore, when purchasing, you must purchase products from large manufacturers, so that you can get timely service when upgrading.

3. Interface

Try to select the external modem of the Ethernet interface. Although the USB interface Modem has the advantage of not using an external power supply, it also consumes CPU resources and is not stable enough on some motherboards in actual use. The disadvantage of the built-in Modem is that it is susceptible to electromagnetic interference in the machine.

4. Heat dissipation

Many people just pay attention to the heat dissipation on the top of the "Big Cat", and I found that the bottom of the "Big Cat" of many brands is hotter. Therefore, it is best to raise it a little while in use so that the air can circulate, which will be better. Of course, it is best to use air conditioning, so that you and your computer don’t have to worry about heat dissipation.
