Two cases of using "replacement method" and "comparison method" to deal with computer black screen

The "replacement method" is a way to find or troubleshoot the failure by replacing parts that may be faulty or not but cannot work properly with faults. The "Contrast method" is to compare a faulty computer or component with a faultless computer or component to find a way to troubleshoot the fault. Both methods are very useful and will be used in many troubleshooting computers. These are two magic weapons I have in the maintenance of the computer room. I will give you two examples below. I hope it can give you some inspiration.

Fault One

The unit bought a new 14-inch monitor. The instruction manual said that the maximum resolution was 1024×68, so I changed the resolution to 1024×768, restarted the machine, and the screen was black. 

Cause of the fault: It can be concluded that the actual resolution that this monitor can achieve does not match the nominal resolution of the instruction manual. The possibility of this monitor being damaged is extremely small. The biggest possibility is that the resolution cannot reach 1024×768 and the light does not light up.

Solution: Use the "replacement method" to solve this problem. Find a monitor that can reach a resolution of 1024×768, replace the new monitor, then change the resolution back to the range that the new monitor can use, and then change it back to the new monitor.

Fault 2

The WIN95 workstation has no disk, it is powered on in one day, the screen is black, and it restarts several times, and the fault remains. It is initially judged that the monitor is bad or the system is bad.

Solution: Use the "replacement method" to find out the fault location first, replace the backup monitor, restart the machine, and after the blue sky and white clouds, the words on the desktop are several times larger than before, and it can be judged that it is a fault of the monitor. Although the fault has been found, it still needs to be changed back to the font: Right-click on the desktop and select "Properties", no! How can you only display about a quarter of the properties dialog box? Fortunately, the dialog box can be moved, but you can't see the part you want to modify. what to do? It seems that I have to use the "comparison method" to compare and quickly open the same faultless machine, operate one step on the machine, and then return to the faulty machine operation step, and then restart it, haha! troubleshooting. After changing to the original monitor, it can be used normally again.

Cause of the failure: This is a public machine for students. Some students must have defined the font too large. The original monitor was of poor quality, which caused the original monitor to fail to display normally and the screen was black.

Many people may never encounter the above faults, but the methods used to troubleshoot the faults are indeed useful and effective, and may be used by many people.
