CMOS usage and maintenance instructions

This phenomenon occurs frequently especially in computers with longer-aged computers. The main reason is that the backup battery on the motherboard has been used for too long and the voltage is low, so it needs to be replaced. However, if CMOS power outage often occurs on newly replaced machines, you must consider whether there is any problem with the circuit on the motherboard. Generally, when using it, we should pay attention to the following points:

1. When replacing the motherboard battery, it is very necessary to choose batteries with good quality and recently produced (such as MAXELL CR2032). Otherwise, the battery will often be out of power after a few months due to poor quality of the replaced battery or excessive discharge due to long-term storage of the battery, which will cause the battery to run out of power after several months. If the replaced battery is of good quality but not long use, the CMOS will be powered off, which may be due to the circuit problem on the motherboard and the motherboard needs to be inspected and repaired in time.

2. When replacing the battery, please check whether there is any leakage in the original battery. If there is any leakage, you must thoroughly wipe the leakage on the motherboard to reduce the damage caused by the leakage to the circuit corrosion. If it is a newly purchased machine, in addition to considering battery problems, factors such as motherboard problems and coordination problems with certain cards should also be considered. It is best to contact the company selling the computer in a timely manner to solve the problem.

3. If you want to deal with the circuit problems yourself, you can check whether the resistor or diode of the battery circuit on the motherboard is damaged, whether the capacitor is leaking, and whether there are any problems with the jumper settings of the battery, etc. If you are sure that there is a problem with the quality of the integrated circuit on the motherboard, you can also use the external battery method to solve this problem yourself.

The method is: use a 6V stacked battery or connect a battery box with 2 to 4 No. 5 batteries to the external battery connector on the motherboard. Please pay attention to the marks about positive and negative ends on the motherboard manual, and do not connect them incorrectly. For safety reasons, a small 50Ω resistor can be connected in series in the battery circuit (positive end). Battery connectors can be purchased from computer companies or electronic accessories stores. Because these batteries have strong power supply capacity, they can usually be used for a long time, but they should use a green and environmentally friendly battery without leakage, and place the battery box in a safe position in the machine to prevent damage to the machine parts due to leakage of liquid in the battery.
