Frequently Asked Questions and Solutions for IE Cannot Open Web Pages

1. Network settings problems. This reason is often caused by the need to manually specify the IP, gateway, and DNS server networking methods, and the use of proxy servers to access the Internet. Double-check your computer's network settings.
2. DNS server problems
When IE cannot browse web pages, you can first try to access them with an IP address. If you can access them, it should be a DNS problem. The problem with DNS may be an error in obtaining DNS when connecting to the network or a problem with the DNS server itself. At this time, you can manually specify the DNS service (the address can be the DNS server address provided by your local ISP, or you can use the DNS server address normally in other places.) It is performed in the network properties, (Control panel - Network and Disconnect Connection - Local Connection - Right-click attribute - TCP/IP protocol - Attribute - Use the DNS server address below). Different ISPs have different DNS addresses. Sometimes it is a problem with the router or network card, and it is impossible to connect to the ISP's DNS service. In this case, you can turn off the router for a while and then turn on it, or reset the router.
Another possibility is that there is a problem with the local DNS cache. In order to improve the website access speed, the system will automatically store the website that has been visited and obtained the IP address into the local DNS cache. Once this website is accessed again, the IP address of the website will no longer be directly retrieved from the local DNS cache through the DNS server for access. Therefore, if there is a problem with the local DNS cache, it will cause the website to be inaccessible. You can execute ipconfig /flushdns in "Run" to rebuild the local DNS cache.
3. IE browser itself problems
When the IE browser itself fails, it will naturally affect browsing; or IE is maliciously modified and damaged, it will also lead to the inability to browse the web page. At this time, you can try to use "Huangshan IE Repair Expert" to repair (it is recommended to repair it in safe mode), or re-IE (if you encounter problems that cannot be re-installed in IE, please refer to: Attachment 1 to solve the problem that cannot be re-installed)
4. Network firewall problem
If the network firewall is not set properly, such as the security level is too high, accidentally putting IE into the blocking access list, wrong firewall policy, etc., you can try to check the policy, lower the firewall security level, or turn it off directly to try to restore normality.
5. Issues of network protocol and network card driver
IE cannot browse, it may be caused by the network protocol (especially the TCP/IP protocol) or the network card driver. You can try to revise the network card driver and network protocol.
6. Problems with HOSTS files
If the HOSTS file is modified, it will also lead to abnormal browsing. The solution is of course to clear the contents in the HOSTS file.
7. System file problems
When the system files related to IE are replaced or corrupted, it will affect the normal use of IE. You can use the SFC command to repair it. The WIN98 system can execute SFC in "Run" and then perform scans; WIN2000/XP/2003 executes sfc/scannow in "Run" to try to repair it.
Among them, when only IE cannot browse web pages and QQ can be uploaded, it is often caused by corruption or loss of files such as (VXD only exists under the WIN9X system). Winsock is an important part of the TCP/IP protocol, and the TCP/IP protocol is generally reinstalled. However, xp began to integrate the TCP/IP protocol, so it cannot be simply uninstalled and reinstalled like 98. You can use the netsh command to reset the TCP/IP protocol to restore it to the state when the operating system was first installed. The specific operations are as follows:
Click "Start Run", enter the "CMD" command in the run dialog box, and a command prompt window pops up. Then enter the "netsh int ip reset c:\" command and then press Enter. The "" file is a log file used to record the command execution results. This parameter option must be specified. The complete path of the log file specified here is "c:\". The result after executing this command is the same as deleting and reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol.
Tip: The netsh command is a command line-based scripting tool. You can use this command to configure and monitor the Windows system. In addition, it also provides an interactive network shell program interface. For the format of the netsh command, please refer to the help file (enter "netsh/?" in the command prompt window).
The second solution is to repair the above files. WIN9X uses SFC to re-extract the above files. WIN2000/XP/2003 uses the sfc/scannow command to repair the files. When it cannot be repaired with sfc/scannow, you can try the repair tool specially designed for this problem published online, which can be searched and downloaded online.
8. Real-time monitoring issues of antivirus software
This is not common, but sometimes it is related to real-time monitoring, because the real-time monitoring of anti-virus software now adds monitoring of web page content. To give an example: KV2005 will cause IE to be unable to browse web pages on some machines (many friends have encountered it). The specific manifestation is that as long as the web page monitoring is turned on, IE will be unable to browse web pages after turning on the computer for about 20 minutes. At this time, if the KV2005 web page monitoring is turned off, everything will return to normal; it will not be solved by thoroughly reinstalling KV2005. Although not every machine that installs KV2005 will have this problem, after all, the system of each machine is different and the installed programs are also different. However, if IE cannot browse the web page, you should also check the antivirus software.
9. Issues in Application Management Service
If you can only go to QQ and not open web pages, it will be fine after restarting. However, even if you restart, you can't open the web page after opening 7 to 8 web pages, so you can only go to QQ. Sometimes Telecom often asks you to disable Application Management service, which can be solved. The specific reason is unknown.
10. Caused by virus infection
This situation is often reflected in the fact that when opening IE, it is prompted in the lower left box of the IE interface: The web page is being opened, but it has not responded for a long time. Check the process in the task manager (enter the method, put the mouse on the taskbar, right-click - Task Manager - Process) to see how the CPU occupancy rate is. If it is 100%, you can be sure that you are infected with a virus. At this time, you will suffer if you want to run other programs. This requires checking which process greedily occupies CPU resources. After finding it, it is best to record the name and click End. If it cannot be finished, you need to start to safe mode to delete the item, and enter the registry. (Method: Start - Run, enter regedit) In the registry dialog box, click Edit - Search, enter the program name, after finding it, right-click to delete it, and then search a few times, which can often be completely deleted.
There are many viruses, and when the antivirus software is powerless, the only way is to delete them manually.
11. The secondary link cannot be opened
There is another phenomenon that needs special attention: it can open the home page of the website, but cannot open the secondary link. If this is the case, the method of handling is to re-register the following DLL file:
Enter:
regsvr32
regsvr32  (note this command, don’t need to enter it for now)
regsvr32
regsvr32
regsvr32
regsvr32
regsvr32
regsvr32
Note: Press Enter for each input. You can do not need to enter the second command first. After entering these commands, restart Windows. If it is found that it is invalid, enter it again. This time, enter the second command.
