Recovery console rules

Several environmental rules will take effect when using the Recovery Console. Type set to view the current environment. The rules by default are as follows:

AllowAllPaths = FALSE, prohibits access to directories and subdirectories except the system installation you selected when entering the recovery console.

AllowRemovableMedia = FALSE, prohibits removable media as the target for copying files.

AllowWildCards = FALSE, prohibits wildcard support in commands such as copy and del.

NoCopyPrompt = FALSE, which means that when you overwrite existing files, the recovery console will prompt you to confirm.

Delete the Recovery Console

To delete the recovery console, follow these steps:

Restart the computer, click Start, click My Computer, and then double-click the hard drive with the recovery console. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab. Click Show Hidden Files and Folders, click to clear the Hide Protected Operating System Files check box, and then click OK. Under the root folder, delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file. In the root folder, right-click the file and click Properties. Click to clear the Read Only check box, and then click OK.

Warning: Incorrectly modifying the file may cause your computer to fail to restart. Please make sure you have deleted only items for the recovery console. In addition, after completing this step, it is recommended that you change the properties of the file back to the read-only state. Open the file in Microsoft Windows Notepad and delete the items for the recovery console. The file is similar to:

C:\cmdcons\="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Save and close the file.

Installing the Recovery Console during Unattended Installation

To install the recovery console during the unattended installation of Windows, the [GuiRunOnce] section of the file must be used.

Command1="Path\winnt32/cmdcons/unattend"

Note: If the installation CD is WindowXP SP1, but after the system has been upgraded, then use the installation original disk to install the recovery console, it will generally be reported that a version is too old and cannot be installed. At this time, you can download SP2, enter the i386 directory of SP2, and run winnt32/cmdcons!
