The Windows XP operating system is known for its stable performance and beautiful appearance. However, by modifying the registry, we can make the system more in line with our personality. In the following articles, we will provide some application techniques that can make your system more personalized.
1. Modify the login background pattern of Windows XP
Faced with the long-lasting monotonous login pattern, you may become tired of it over time. We can change it to your favorite pattern through the registry. The steps are as follows: Open the registry editor, find the HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelDesktop subkey branch, double-click the wallpaper, type the path of the picture you selected, such as: c:Documents and SettingsMy DocumentsMy, click "OK", and then find Tilewallpaper, double-click it to enter the key value "1", and restart the system to see the effect.
2. Cancel the default value of Windows pictures and fax viewer
When viewing pictures on my computer and Explorer, both Windows pictures and fax viewers are used as default values. If you need to cancel this default value, you can press Change: At [Start]-->[Run]-->Type [regedit]-->Select [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[SOFTWARE]-->[Classes]-->[CLSID]-->[{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}]-->[shellex], and delete the [MayChangeDefaultMenu] item.
3. Stop the notification function of "Insufficient Disk Space"
When the capacity of the disk drive is less than 200MB, Windows XP will issue a notification of "insufficient disk space". If you need to stop this function, you can press the program to change the login file: at [Start]-->[Run]-->Type [Regedit]-->[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[Software]-->[Microsoft]-->[Windows]-->[CurrentVersion], add an item name [Explorer] under [Policies] (if you already have it, you don't need to add it), add a DWORD value in [Explorer], [NoLowDiskSpaceChecks] value data is [1]=stop notification, and the value data is [0]=default value start notification.
4. Completely deleted the custom hidden inactive icon
In the taskbar, there is a hidden inactivity icon in a notification area. Many of them are left behind when running the software before, and some of them have been removed, and there is also a shadow in it. How to completely delete:
Run regedit and open HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerTrayNotify
Delete the values of IconStreams and PastIconsStream
At the same time, press DEL+ALT+CTRL or right-click on the taskbar/task manager to open the task manager/process, end the program, ignore its warning, press OK. The taskbar disappeared at this time.
Then, click "File"/New Task in Task Manager, enter, and the taskbar is restored, and then, it is best to restart.
5. Solutions for IE not to open a new window
Recently, for some reason, my IE cannot open a new window. The specific manifestation is: using the left mouse button to click on the hyperlink without any response, using the right mouse button to click on the hyperlink, and selecting "Open in new window" in the pop-up menu also has no movement. This makes me very anxious. Reinstalling IE is really troublesome. After some information search, I finally found a solution. If you also encounter the same situation as me, you can try this:
Click "Start" → "Run", enter "regsvr32" in the pop-up "Run" dialog box (note that there are no quotes when entering), and then click the "OK" button, and then an information dialog box "DllRegisterServer in successed" will appear; click the "OK" button in this dialog box;
Click "Start" → "Run" again, enter "regsvr32" in the pop-up "Run" dialog box (note that there are no quotes when entering), and then click the "OK" button. Then an information dialog box "DllRegisterServer in successed" will appear, and click the "OK" button in the dialog box;
Restart Windows, run IE, open any web page, and click on a hyperlink to try. You will find that IE can open a new window again! Try right-clicking and selecting "Open in new window", but it's still OK!
6. Solutions to the IE window becoming smaller
Sometimes, somehow, whenever IE opens a new window, it will appear a small window, and even if you click the "Maximize" button, it will still be useless. In fact, this is a "memory" effect that IE itself has, that is, the window that will be reopened next time is the same as the state when it was closed the last time. To restore the IE window to normal every time you open, follow the following steps:
Enter the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain, and delete the "Window_Placement" key in the window on the right;
Expand the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerDesktopOld Work-Areas, and delete the "OldWorkAreaRects" key in the right window;
Close the registry, restart the computer, maximize the IE window twice in a row ("Maximize" → "Restore" → "Maximize"), and restart IE again and it will be OK.
7. Turn off the automatic restart function
When Windows XP encounters serious problems, it will restart suddenly. Press Change to cancel this function: at [Start]-->[Run]-->Type [regedit]-->Select [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[SYSTEM]-->[CurrentControlSet]-->[Control]-->[CrashControl], change the [AutoReboot]dword value to [0], and the restart takes effect.
8. XP pre-read settings
Windows XP sets up a read-premise technology to increase system speed. If you have PIII 800, 512M memory or above, please recommend the modification:
Run "regedit"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParametersEnablePrefetcher>;
Set the values 0, 1, 2, 3. 0-Disable, 1-read-preview application, 2-start read-preview, 3-The first two are read-preview ("3", recommended), 4. Restart.
Clear the read preview file
After XP is used for a period of time, the files in the pre-read folder will become large, and there will be dead-link files in it, which will slow down the system time. Suggestion: Delete these files regularly. (windowsprefetch)
9. Delete the system's extra dll files
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionsharedlls" records the shared dll information. The following number indicates that the current dll file is shared by several applications. If its value is 0, it means that it is redundant and you can delete it as much as possible.
10. Speed up the window display speed
We can change the window pop-up from the taskbar by modifying the registry, and minimize the action of regressing to the taskbar. The steps are as follows: Open the registry editor, find the HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics subkey branch, and find the MinAniMate key value in the window on the right, which is REG_SZ. By default, the value of this skill value is 1, indicating that the animation displayed in the window is opened. If you change it to 0, the display of the animation is prohibited. Next, select the "Logout" command from the Start menu to activate the modifications just made.
11. Remove the "Update" option
For most users, Windows Update function of Windows XP seems to be of little use. We can remove it. The steps are as follows: Open the Registry Editor, find the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware Microsoft WindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer subkey branch, select the "New" command under the "Edit" menu, create a new value of type REG_DWORD, name NoCommonGroups, double-click the newly created NoCommonGroups subkey, enter the key value "1" in the "Edit String" text box, then click the "OK" button and restart the system.
12. Hide the recycling bin
Hide the Recycle Bin means that it will not be displayed in the desktop and explorer. Hide does not mean stopping this function. If you use the login file changer, please first export the relevant login file for backup. Login file change (for Windows XP home and commercial version): at [Start]-->[Run]-->Type [Regedit]-->[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[SOFTWARE]-->[Microsoft]-->[Windows]-->[CurrentVersion]-->[Explorer]-->[Desktop]-->[NameSpace], delete [{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}] to log in again and take effect.
13. Modify the background color when logging in
If you also want to modify the background color when logging in, you can follow the following steps: Open the Registry Editor, find the HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelColors subkey branch, double-click the Background key value name under the subkey branch, and the "Edit string" dialog box appears. Enter the key value representing the color in the "Numerical Data" text box (for example, the RGB value of black is 000, the RGB value of white is 255 255 255, and the system default value is 58 110 165), click the "OK" button and restart the system.
14. Set up startup information or add warning information
If you want to display some personalized information you define when starting Windows XP, you can follow the following steps: Open the Registry Editor, find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWAREMicrosoft Windows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon subkey branch, double-click the LegalNoticeCaption skill name below it, open the "Edit String" window, enter the title of the information dialog box in the "Numerical Data" text box, such as "Hello, welcome to use this machine", then double-click the LegalNoticeText, enter the warning information you want to display in the "Edit String" window that appears later, such as "Please don't modify the settings at this level at will, thank you!", click the "OK" button, and restart to see the modified effect.
15. Keep desktop settings unchanged every time you start
We can protect our desktop settings by modifying the registry. No matter what modifications are made, the desktop will be restored to its original state after restarting. The steps are as follows: Open the registry editor, find the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer subkey branch, find NoSaveSettings below it, its type is REG_SZ, change its key value to "0", or directly delete the key value item, restart the system to make the settings take effect.
