A collection of interesting registry applications

1. Rename the recycling bin

We can easily change the names of most icons on the desktop, but we cannot change the name of the Recycle Bin directly. If you want to change the name of "Recycle Bin", you can only change the "default" value of the right window key of HKEY-CLASSES-ROOT\CLSID\ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} in the Registry Editor, close the Registry Editor, and restart Win 95, and you will find that the original "Recycle Bin" has become "Trunk".

2. Change the icons of "My Computer" and "Recycle Bin"

In Win 95, the icons of "My Computer" and "Recycle Bin" cannot be changed like modifying the icons of general files. They can only be achieved by modifying the system's registry:

Start the Registry Editor, in the registry, select the "HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID" option, then select "Edit"\"Find", type "Recycle Bin" and confirm. When you find this item, select the DefaultIcon option of the item, double-click "Full" (or "Deafult" and "Empty") in the name bar. The icon file corresponding to "Recycle Bin" is displayed in the pop-up dialog box. Change this value to the icon file you like (note that you need to write the full file path). You can modify the "My Computer" icon in the same way, just type "My Computer" when searching and confirm.

3. Change the name of Win 95

Some creative friends may want to give their operating system a romantic name (such as "Win 95 Wild Goose Squad"...). This modification method is not difficult: open the registry editor, change the Version value of the right window key of HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion to a name you think of (such as "Win 95 Wild Goose Squad") (Note: the length of the string is ≤29 English characters), then close the registry editor, and then click Explorer/Help/About Windows 95, and you will find that the task is done.

4. Quickly clear the recycling bin

When our machine has to clear the recycling bin because the hard disk space is full, we can only display the desktop first, then double-click the "Recycle bin" and then clear it. This method is obviously not very convenient. In fact, it is completely possible to create a quick setting - just add a primary key to the registry file:

Run the Registry Editor, enter "HKEY—CLASSES—ROOT\*\shellex \ContextMenuHandlers", right-click the ContextMenuHandlers folder icon in the left column, and select "New" \"Primary Key", change the name of the new folder from "New Key #1" to "{645FF040-5081-101B-9 F08-00AA002F954E}", and then press Enter to confirm.

This way, when you right-click anywhere to select a file, the option "Empty Recycle Bin" will appear in the menu.

5. Delete unnecessary options in the run window

When using Windows 95's Start/Run menu multiple times, you will find that its "Open" window is messed up with a bunch of commands that you no longer need. We can delete it directly in the registry editor: save these operations in the right window of HKEY—USER\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exploer\RunMRU, just delete the unnecessary string values.

6. Adjust the display speed of the hierarchical menu

Open the Registry Editor, under HKEY—CIURRENT—USER\ControlP anel\desktop, right-click the right column of the window, and the "Add" menu appears, select "String Value", name it Menu Show Dlay, double-click it to display the dialog box, and you can set the value to 1~10, 1 is the fastest. Restart Windows 95 to make the settings take effect.

7. Add each component in the control panel directly to the "Run" menu

If we add each component in the control panel directly to the Run menu, it will be much more convenient to use. The method is to use the resource manager to create a folder called "ControlPanel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309d}" under c: \Windows\Start Menu (note: spaces, periods, and braces must be entered, there must be no errors. "Control Panel" should be changed to "Control Panel" under the Chinese version of Win 95). In the future, a submenu called Control Panel will be added to the Start menu, with various components of the control panel below. The numbers in the braces here are the class identifiers corresponding to the control panel in the registry. They can be found under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID in the registry editor. The values of each machine may vary, and the results found shall prevail.

8. Delete the "System Level" icon on the desktop

When you want to delete icons of the Recycle Bin, Inbox, and Online Neighbors on your desktop, you will find that they cannot be deleted in general ways. At this time, you can only modify the registry: open the registry editor, first record the keywords of the branch under HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace and the string value of the right window (used with paper and pen) (for recovery), then delete the unnecessary branches, close the registry editor, restart Win 95, and then look at the desktop, it has disappeared.

9. Add sound effects to specific applications

1. Type c:\windows\ in the "Run" box to enter the "Register Editor" window;

2. Open HKEY—CURRENT—USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps;

3. Right-click Apps and a shortcut menu will appear;

4. Select "New" in the shortcut menu, and then select the "Primary Key (K)" command;

5. Enter the application name of the user to increase the sound effect in the "New Value #1" box and press Enter;

6. Right-click the main value you just built, and a shortcut menu will appear;

7. Select "New" in the shortcut menu, and then select the "Primary Key (K)" command;

8. Enter the user's primary value in the "New Value #1" box, and the primary value can be:

Close Open

RestoreDown

Maximize RestoreUp

MenuCommand

SystemAsterisk

MenuPopup

SystemExclamation

Minimize SystemQuestion

9. Close the "Registration Editor" and return to the "Sound" of the "Control Panel".

10. Change the name of the Word insert object into Chinese characters

Inserting/objects in the Word menu are often difficult to adapt. We can change it to Chinese characters in a simple way: In the Registry Editor, change the "default" value of the right window key of HKEY-CLASSES-ROOT\Euation 3.0 from "Microsoft Equation 3.0" to "Formula Editor 3.0", then close the Registry Editor, and then open Word, you will find that it has been Chineseized.

11. Modify the ownership name of the software

When installing Win 95, you may have filled in the ownership content of the software incorrectly. At this time, there is only one way to modify it - modify the registry: Open the registry editor, modify the ownership key value of the right window of HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Deveoper\Setup, restart Win 95, and you will find that the ownership of this software has been changed by you.

12. Change the dynamic effect when the window changes

When you click on an application on the taskbar, the window returns to the desktop; when the window is minimized, the window shrinks to the taskbar. At this time, the changes in the window will have a display change process. If you don’t like the way of handling this display process, you can also invalidate this visual effect. The method is: open the registry editor and find HKEY—CURRENT—USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowsMetrics. Right-click the blank space on the right pane, and then select "New"\"String Value" from the pop-up menu, enter Minanimate and press Enter. At this time, there is a key value called Minanimate in the right pane. Right-click it and select "Modify", enter 0 in the key value data text box and press Enter, then close the Registry Editor and restart Win 95. Now, when you minimize a program (retract it back to the taskbar) or click its icon on the taskbar to restore the program window to normal or maximum state, the window will suddenly appear on the screen without a visual change process, giving a "fast" feeling.

13. Set two IP addresses for a machine

Generally, one IP address can only be configured for one network adapter, but by modifying the system registry, multiple IP addresses can be configured for a network card:

Run the registry editor and find HKEY—LOCAL—MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans. In this directory, you can see multiple directories named 0000, 0001, 0002..., which are used to record the installation of the protocol. Find the directory where DriverDesc is "TCP/IP" among them, and modify the two keys IPAddress and IPMask. Where IPAddress is multiple IP addresses separated by commas, and IPMask is the corresponding mask. For example, when setting IPAddress to "202.10.1.10, 202.10.1.25" and IPMask to "255.255.255.0, 255.255.255.0", it means that two IP addresses 202.10.1.10 and 202.10.1.25 are set for the system.
