Since Windows 95 system, the Windows system has adopted the registry management mechanism. The data in the registry is stored in the following two system files: and. The registry is one of the guarantees for the normal operation of Windows systems. Once the registry fails, it may cause the Windows system to fail to function properly.
It is precisely based on the importance of the registry that the Windows system has taken corresponding protection measures. The basic method of protection measures is to back up the registry data file and related INI files when the system was started normally. Once a failure occurs, the system is restored by restoring the configuration that was started normally. The following is a description of the method of restoring the registry in Win 98 and Win 2000 systems.
Recovery of registry under Win 98 system
In Win 98 system, the recovery of the registry is achieved by using the tool Scanreg. The Scanreg command is located in the Windows\Command\ directory (assuming that the Windows 98 installation directory is Windows).
After each startup of Win 98, the system will automatically compress the system files (these system files including , , and ) that enable the computer to boot normally into a cab file and save it in the implicit directory Windows\Sysbckup\, and retain the five most recent date backup files ~. Through these system backup files, you can restore the computer that cannot be started normally to the system settings that can be started normally in the last five times. To restore these system backup files to your Windows 98 system normally, you also need a tool provided by Windows 98: Scanreg. Using this tool, you can manually back up system files at any time; you can safely restore any of the last five system backup files to the system; you can repair and rebuild the registry.
Here is a brief introduction to the usage of Scanreg:
Command format: Scanreg/<option>
option has the following options:
List the usage of Scanreg and the usage of related parameters.
backup backup registry and related system files.
restore Select backup file for recovery.
Comment"<comment>" adds special notes to the backup file.
fix fix registry.
Execute the Scanreg command with this parameter will automatically perform the following three steps:
Find illegal system registry primary keys in the registry;
Check the system registry structure;
Re-establish the system registry.
To run the Scanreg command, you need to press the F8 key when you see the information about Starting Windows 98… when you start Windows 98. In the startup menu, select Command Prompt Only mode. After startup is complete, execute the command at the C:/> prompt. If you run the Scanreg command in MS-DOS mode in Windows 98, it will automatically enter its Windows running mode (equivalent to executing the Scanregw command), and only check the registry, and cannot restore and repair the registry. The execution process of the Scanreg command is very simple, just follow the prompts of the interface. After executing this command, you will first confirm that you check your registry first. After selecting Start for a period of time, if no errors are found, you will be prompted to select Create Backup or View Backups... . Select Create Backup to manually back up the registry and related system files; select View Backups... , and you can see the five most recent system backup files, which are different by the backup time. Select the backup file to be restored, and select Restore to restore the system backup files of the corresponding date to your system. If you want to restore the most recent registry, just execute Scanreg with the restore parameter. The command format is as follows: scanreg/restore.
Recovery of registry under Win 2000 system
In Windows 2000 system, the Scanreg command is no longer provided, and the recovery of the registry is mainly done by the functions of the Windows 2000 system itself. The specific steps are as follows:
When you see the "Please select Start Operating System" message during the computer startup process, press the F8 key.
In the startup menu that appears, use the arrow keys to highlight the Last Correct Configuration item and confirm.
Then select the operating system you want to start and confirm.
Relying on the recovery function of the Windows 2000 system itself, the entire registry cannot be restored. Restore can only be effective when a registry failure occurs, such as the newly added driver does not match the hardware, and it cannot solve the registry problem caused by the corruption or loss of the driver or file. That is to say, using this registry restore method, Windows 2000 only restores the information in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet. Any changes made in other registry keys remain the same.
The above only introduces the method of restoring the registry by relying on the tools or functions provided by the Windows system itself. Of course, there are many special system tools that can maintain the registry, so I won't introduce it here. I hope the registry recovery method introduced can help you in your daily use.
