Recently, I bought a Samsung Kangbao optical drive to facilitate the engraving and watching DVD blockbusters. Since the original CD-ROM reading disk is still good, I finally decided to implement the "policy" of dual optical drives, and set the Kangbao optical drive as the main disk and the CD-ROM as the slave disk.
But not long after, I discovered something very headache: it turned out that there was only one optical drive, "My battery
The label of the volume in the brain is "disc", which is very clear at this time. Now, because two optical drives are installed, the label of the optical drive given to Kangbao by the operating system is still "disc". Although the first "disc" (F) is Kangbao and the second "disc" (G) is CD-ROM, it is still easy to cause confusion over time. I often pop up the CD-ROM when watching DVDs, and pop up when reading ordinary disks. Later, I found that computers equipped with Windows XP system can use the difference in the labels to distinguish optical drives, such as "DVD" and "CD optical drive", etc., and the icons are also different, and for Windows Systems like 98/Me/2000 cannot work. Is it really impossible to change the label of the optical drive in these systems? (The label of the optical drive cannot be easily replaced like the label of the hard drive!) Through research on the Windows Me/2000 registry, I finally found a solution, hoping to provide some help to users of dual-optical drives.
For Windows 2000 users, start the Registry Editor, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons (the content you want to enter below does not include quotes) and create a new item as "F", then create a new item as "DefaultLabel" on "F", and finally enter "DVD_CDRW" in the default string value. By the same token, create "G", "DefaultLabel" and "CD-ROM", and then open "My Computer" to refresh. For Windows 98/Me users, the first step is the same as above; the second step is to find HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\F Create "DefaultLabel" in it and enter "DVD_CDRW" in the default string value, and the same is to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\G Create "DefaultLabel" in it and enter "CD-ROM" in the default string value; finally restart the computer.
It should be noted that for Windows 98/Me system, this second step must be taken, otherwise the purpose of changing the volume label will not be achieved. After changing the label, I never confused the two optical drives again.
