Know yourself and your enemy Windows system directory function

The so-called system directory refers to the directory where the main files of the operating system are stored. The files in the directory directly affect whether the system works normally. Understanding the functions of these directories will be of great help to you better use the system. If the following directories are not specified, they are in the Windows directory under Win 98/ME system, and in the Win NT directory under Win 2000 system.

All Users folder:

All user folders of Win 98/ME include the desktop files and the contents of the Start menu when the system is logged in by default.

Win 2000 does not have this folder in the system directory of Win 2000. Win 2000 places user information in the Documents and Settings folder in the root directory. Each user corresponds to a directory, including the Start menu, desktop, favorites, my documents, etc.

Application Data folder:

Win 98/ME application data folder. Including shortcuts in the taskbar, some input methods files, etc. The contents in this directory vary depending on the software you use in your system.

Win 2000 In the Documents and Settings folder, each user corresponds to an Application Data folder. Similarly, each user has the same directory contents due to different software used.

Applog folder:

Win 98/ME application logic file directory. Logical files are files used to record the files that need to be called, addresses used and other information when the application software is running. To view these files, open them with Notepad.

Catroot folder:

The Win 98 computer startup test information directory, and most of the files included in the directory are about the hardware and software information detected when the computer starts up.

Win ME This folder is located in the system directory of the system directory.

Win 2000 This folder is located in the system32 directory of the system directory.

Command folder:

Win 98/ME DOS command directory. Including many external commands under DOS. Although they are all gadgets, they are really easy to use, especially when the system crashes.

Win 2000 These DOS commands are located in the system32 directory of the system directory.

Config folder: 

Win 98/ME/2000 configuration folder, the directory includes some MIDI instrument definition files.

Cookies folder: 

Win 98/ME Cookies, also known as Sweet Cookies, are some information you leave on your hard drive when browsing certain websites, including username, user information, website address, etc.
Win 2000 each user has a Cookies folder located in each user directory in the Documents and Settings folder.

Cursors folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 mouse animation folder. The directory includes animation files of the mouse in different states.

Desktop folder:

Win 98/ME desktop folder. Includes some icons on the desktop.

The Win 2000 folder also exists in the system directory, and there is also a "Desktop" folder in each user directory of the Documents and Settings folder.

 Downloaded Program Files folder: 

Win 98/ME/2000 Download File Folder. This folder contains the files needed to display the opened web page, most of which are used to run animations on the web page.

Drwatson folder: 

Win 98/ME/2000 Watson Doctor Folder. Originally, Dr. Watson could take a snapshot of the system when an error occurs, but this directory only has a hypertext file.
Favorites folder:

Win 98/ME Favorites folder. If you need to reinstall the system, please back up this directory so that the contents in your favorites can be preserved.

Each user of Win200 has a Favorites folder located in each user directory in the Documents and Settings folder.

Fonts folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 font folder. In this directory, you can add and delete font files, or delete unnecessary files to reduce the system's space occupied by the hard disk.

Help folder:

A folder of Win 98/ME/2000 help file, Windows has the advantage of having detailed help files. This directory includes many help files. If you encounter problems, check out the help files, which will be of great help to you.

History folder:

Win 98/ME History folder. IE browser has a function that can record the URLs that users have browsed by themselves. This directory is used to store these URLs.

The historical files of each user in Win 2000 are independent of each other. Located in the Local Settings directory in each user directory in the Documents and Settings folder.
Inf folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 installation file folder. When installing the driver, the system will prompt us to specify the corresponding Inf file. It is also very simple to use these files. Just select "Install" in the right-click menu.

Java folder:

Some folders related to Win 98/ME/2000 and JAVA. It includes two subfolders: Classes and Packages, which contain some compressed files and some data files. Also included in Win 2000 is Trustlib subdirectory.

Sysbckup folder: 

Win 98/ME system backup folder. The system will automatically back up the registry and system files, package them in this directory. When it is necessary to restore, you only need to unpack the file and overwrite the corresponding directory.

System folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 system folder. Important files in the system are placed in this directory, and files will be copied into this directory when installing new software. Since many files are common to multiple software, it is best not to delete files in this directory when deleting the software.

System32 folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 32-bit system folder contains many virtual device files. It is also very important, and special attention should be paid when deleting the files inside.

Tasks folder:

Win 98/ME/2000 Schedule Tasks folder, which contains scheduled Windows tasks. Windows will run these tasks at the specified time.

Temp folder: 

Win 98/ME/2000 temporary file directory. During the operation of the system and software, many temporary files will be generated and stored in this directory. Regularly cleaning up files in this directory can reduce the garbage on the hard drive.

Temporary Internet Files folder: 

Win 98/ME IE download file buffer. When browsing web pages using IE browser, the system will automatically place the browsed web page content in this directory. When you open the same web page again, the system will extract it from this directory, which can speed up the browsing speed.

Each user of Win 2000 has a Temporary Internet Files folder, located in the Local Settings directory in each user directory of the Documents and Settings folder.

Web folder: 

Win 98/ME/2000 The files in this folder are mainly some hypertext templates, channel icons and images, etc. The layout of some windows in the Windows system is also completed through the files here. I didn't think this directory is important before, but later I found out that Happy Hour virus is to infect files in this directory to achieve the purpose of destruction.

Friendly reminder: Since the files in the system directory are very important, be very careful when making modifications. If you are not very familiar with the system, you should not move them when setting them up.
