Newbie's Guide: New Uses for Large Memory

As the memory price continues to fall, many friends who have newly assembled computers have 512MB or higher memory. Such a large memory will naturally make the system run faster, but have you ever thought that there is another way to completely "squeeze" the potential of memory? That is - create a virtual disk with memory space. (Click to see more software usage tips)

Let’s take the virtual disk function provided by Tweak XP as an example; after entering the main interface, select “RAM Disk Driver” under “System Performance” in the navigation panel on the left, and then first set the size of the memory virtual disk under “Ram Drive Setting” on the right window. Generally, the maximum memory virtual disk allowed for a computer with 384MB of memory is 256MB, which you can set as appropriate. Then specify a drive letter (such as U) for the memory virtual hard disk in "Choose a Drive-Letter for your RAM Disk Drive", and then click the "Install RAM Drive" button. The program will automatically guide the user to install the memory virtual hard disk. After the installation is completed, you need to restart the computer before it can take effect.

After installing the memory virtual disk, if you want to change the capacity and drive letter of the memory virtual disk, just click the Apply Setting button on the right after setting it up and it will take effect. When we point temporary folders such as IE cache and TEMP to this partition, we can clearly feel that the system and all aspects are getting faster. However, it should be noted that since it is a virtual disk built in memory, its data will not be saved to the real hard disk, and the data inside will be lost when the computer is shut down.
