When it comes to computer cleaning, everyone is familiar with it! However, many friends still have certain limitations in their understanding of cleaning, and they focus more on deleting some junk files generated by Windows itself; in fact, there are some alternative junk, such as: items in the right-click menu of the software; items in the IE right-click menu, toolbar icon, useless items in favorites; shortcuts for invalid ones, etc.
Their existence not only wastes our precious hard drive space, but also leaves a chance for viruses to take advantage of. Therefore, it is necessary to clean up the computer in a timely manner.
1. The right-click menu of the explorer
1. Delete the extra items in the right-click menu
As we all know, when installing many software, they must first unzip their own installation files into a temporary directory (usually the Temp directory under the Windows folder), such as WinZip and other tools, and then install them.
If the software is designed negligently or the system has problems, when the installation is completed, these temporary files will become not "temporary" and become a pile of garbage in the hard disk. Often they appear in the face of *.tmp; during the operation of the software, some temporary exchange files will usually be generated, such as backup files such as *.old and *.bak generated by some programs when working, and backup files generated by antivirus software or system software when checking the hard disk; and after the software is uninstalled, some folders, *.dll files, *.hlp files, registry key values, and various unknown small things will be left on the hard disk, becoming real garbage.
In fact, after we uninstall an application normally, we will leave some projects that we no longer need in the right-click menu, and we also need to delete them. These legacy projects are generally stored here.
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellexContextMenuHandlers”
If it is a project that is only valid for folders, it will be stored in these places
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshell”
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshellexContextMenuHandlers”
Sometimes in "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFoldershell"
There are also "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFoldershellexContextMenuHandlers". Just delete them after finding them.
In addition, using the search function of the registry, you can also remove the uninstalled legacy files, find the software-related key values in the registry, find and delete it, and there may be multiple ones. At this time, you can use the F3 shortcut key to continue searching until all items are deleted.
(Tip: Before performing any registry deletion operation, you must export the items to be deleted in the registry editor.)
2. Use ShellExView to clean
It is very convenient to manually delete unnecessary right-click menu items in the registry, but you must export the deleted items to prevent errors! Many friends will think it is a bit troublesome. Here we recommend using ShellExView free software to complete the above tasks. It is a widget that can display and control all Windows shell extensions installed on the system, such as: right-click menu, right-click placing files with the right mouse button or pop-up menu after releasing the keys in the folder.
After downloading, you can decompress the compressed package to any folder, such as "C: ShellExView", and run "" in it to start the program.
If you want to remove the items in the right-click menu of the Real Player software you installed previously, you can find and select the "C:Program FilesRealRealOne" item under the "Filename" column (find by file name, or search through conditions such as "Description" and "Extension Name"). Right-click and select "Disable Selected Items", so that all the items in the right-click menu of the Real Player software will disappear.
Recovery can be performed if you select Enable Selected Items again.
In addition, with ShellExView, you can also add or delete specific folders (printers, recycle bins, scheduled tasks, network connections, etc.) on "My Computer" and desktop, for example, select "Administrative Tools" in the list, and then click "Files→Add Selected Items To..." and select "My Computer" in the lower submenu. This will add the "Administrative Tools" to "My Computer".
Software name: ShellExView
3. Delete the options in the "New" submenu
Select the "New" submenu in the menu that pops up with the right mouse button, and the new file corresponding to the installed application in the system will be displayed. As more and more applications are available in the system, the content in the "New" submenu will also increase. However, in daily use of computers, users do not need to create so many types of files. In fact, we can completely delete the options in the "New" menu by modifying the registry, and the operation is not complicated. Just start the registry editor, delete the "ShellNew" item under [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.***] (".***" is the file extension for the project to be deleted), and then exit the registry editor and restart the computer.
Let's take the example of deleting the "WinRAR Compressed File" item in the "New" submenu; first, you need to find [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHNESOFTWAREClasses.rar], delete the "ShellNew" item under it, return to the desktop, press the F5 key to refresh, then right-click the blank space on the desktop and select "New". At this time, you will find that the original "WinRAR Compressed File" has disappeared.
4. Delete useless items in the "Open Method" submenu
Right-clicking a file may cause some programs that we do not need in the "Open Method" submenu of the right-click menu. There are three programs in the "Open Method" of the ".TXT" file, but some of them are not used at all. At this time, just go to the registry.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts]
Also find the corresponding extension item in [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTSystemFileAssociations], and then delete the unwanted key value or item in the "OpenWithList" child.
Let's take the example of deleting the useless items in the "Open With" submenu of the right-click menu of the text file; enter here
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion
]
Delete the corresponding key value in the right pane and enter here
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTSystemFileAssociationtextOpenWithList], just delete the corresponding child.
2. Let IE be lightly equipped
With the continuous development of network technology, communication and communication through the network have become a part of many people's daily lives. However, the discord in IE is always a headache. The window title and default homepage have been changed beyond recognition; the right-click menu, toolbar, toolbar are forcibly added with all kinds of messy content, etc. In fact, the above situations can be solved with 3721 Internet Assistant. If your system is not installed, you can open assistant in your browser and download and install the Internet Assistant into the system. After the installation is completed, it is recommended to restart the system and proceed to the next step.
1. Clean the IE right-click menu
In the web page window opened by the browser, when you right-click the mouse, a shortcut menu will pop up, from which we can quickly perform many operations such as file download and image saving. However, now many programs now add related items in the IE right-click menu as long as they are installed into the system. Over time, the IE right-click menu will not only become very bloated, but will also make the right-click menu pop up for longer and longer, affecting the system's operation. Therefore, it is very necessary to clean up unnecessary right-click menu items.
First, start IE browser, and then click "Internet Assistant → Repair IE → Restore IE appearance" below the address bar to open the window: If you want to clean the IE right-click menu, we just select the "Clean IE right-click menu" tab in the window to open a new window. The list in the middle shows all the items in the current IE right-click menu. If you want to clear which item, just select it with the mouse and click the "Clean Now" button.
2. Clean the IE toolbar buttons
The method of cleaning IE toolbar buttons is similar to this. Click "Clean IE Toolbar Button" to enter the function page:
The middle list shows the buttons that can be cleared on the IE toolbar. Just click the check box in front of each item and click "Clear Now" to remove the selected toolbar button.
Reopen an IE window and you can see that the deleted toolbar button has disappeared.
3. Clean up the IE toolbar
Due to the flexibility of IE, its toolbars can also be added at will. When many toolbars want to be placed on IE, IE becomes increasingly crowded.
In addition, if more than 3 toolbars are loaded, the startup speed of IE will be reduced. This is because when IE starts, it will initialize the toolbar that needs to be loaded and complete some settings. When there are only 1 or 2 toolbars, we won’t feel anything. If more than 3, the speed will be significantly reduced. In addition, if the content of the toolbar needs to be downloaded instantly from the Internet, then this delay will be even more obvious. So it is recommended that you only load 2 toolbars at most.
Of course, IE also provides the function of not loading toolbars. Click the menu "View → Toolbar" to see the installed toolbars in IE. The "Standard Buttons" and "Address Bar" are the most basic and should not be deleted. Others like "links" are of little use and don't need to load them. The method is to click on this item, and the "check" mark in front of it disappears, and the toolbar represented by this item is no longer displayed in IE. However, it is obvious that since IE needs to be refreshed every time a toolbar is removed, this operation is more troublesome.
In fact, we can use the Internet assistant to complete this operation. Start IE browser and click "Internet Assistant → Repair IE → Restore IE Appearance" below the address bar. To clean up the IE toolbar, we just select the "Clean IE Toolbar" tab in the window to open a new window. The list in the middle shows items that cannot be loaded in the IE toolbar bar. Just click the checkbox in front of each item and click Clear Now. Reopen an IE window and you can see that the toolbar is not loaded.
After the above cleaning, I believe your IE must be much refreshing, and because you have removed some burdens and put them in lightweight, the IE startup speed is much faster!
3. Delete invalid shortcuts
As we all know, whether it is Windows 9x/Me or Windows XP with SP1 patch, as time goes by, various junk files and spam information will increase in the system. There is also a kind of garbage that is not well known in Windows, that is, the shortcuts that have been invalid. For example, the folder where a certain software (or file) is located has been modified, but its shortcuts still point to the original location, or the software has been uninstalled or the file has been deleted, but the corresponding shortcuts are still left in "Start → Programs", "Start → Documents", "C:Progeam Files", etc. The longer Windows uses, the more garbage shortcuts, Windows will become more and more bloated, and of course the operational efficiency will become lower and lower. At this time, you can use Windows Optimizer to clean it up, or use the free software OrphansRemover [click to download] to find and clear them.
After downloading and installing, run OrphansRemover and select the folder to scan and the invalid shortcuts to connect to the mobile memory, CD, etc. under the "Select folders to shortcut orphans:" and "lnclude shortcuts with broken links to:" above the software window. The "User defined search folder" text box allows you to specify folders. Finally, click the "Start scan" button at the bottom of the window to start scanning. After completing the scan, click the "Delete orphans" button to delete the invalid shortcut.
In addition, the OrphansRemover software also supports command line parameters. For example, "D:program filesorphansremover recent startmenu-silent" can clean up invalid shortcuts in the "Document" and "Start" menus, where "recent" is "Document" and "startmenu" is "Start" menu, and "-silent" means quiet execution in the background. For other parameters, please refer to the relevant instructions for the OrphansRemover installation folder file.
4. Clean up IE favorites
When surfing the Internet, many websites are collected due to temporary needs, but are useless because of the end of the demand; some websites are closed for one reason or another, and some websites are automatically added to your favorites when you visit it... After spending the Internet for a long time, favorites are getting bigger and bigger. How to quickly know which website addresses have expired and delete these invalid URLs? If you take the previous link-by-link detection and cleaning methods, it will definitely be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Is there a better way? At this time, the free AM-Deadlink software comes in handy, which can meet your needs.
Install and run the software. When the main window appears, the language selection window will pop up. After selecting "Chinese_gb" in the drop-down menu, the software interface becomes simplified Chinese. Then press the F9 key to start verifying the URL in the favorites. It is recommended to press the penultimate icon on the toolbar. This way, a browsing window will appear below the favorites list window. Double-click the URL above to open the web page in this window for further viewing.
For URLs that do not exist, AM-Deadlink will display "File not found" in the "Status" bar. Do not click "Favorites → Delete" at this time, because it is likely that the URL you are collecting is a deleted page in the website, but in fact this website still exists. So please click the hammer icon button on the right in the browsing window below, and select "Advance level" in the menu that appears to see if the homepage of the website will appear.
If you find that there is no problem with the homepage, you can continue to select "Replace the URL in the bookmark with the open URL" and reset the URL. If "upgrade one level" is not good, don't worry, you can select "Search Google" in this menu. AM-Deadlink will search in Google with the name of the website (it was found that it is not good for Chinese support after testing), giving you the opportunity to find the new website address of the website.
In addition, many websites currently provide personalized favorites icons. If you find that there is no icon in front of your favorites URL, you can press "Favlcons → Check bookmarks and download favorites icons", which can help you solve the problem. At the same time, the AM-Deadlink software also has the function of backing up favorites, which supports backing up favorites into ZIP files. Just click "Backup → Internet Explorer Favorites (ZIP File)".

5. Clean up useless fonts
1. Delete useless fonts
In the process of document processing or art design, in order to achieve aesthetics or other requirements, we may need to install and use some special fonts that are not included in the system. Over time, I'm afraid I don't even know how many fonts are installed in the system. In fact, problems arise when there are more than 500 fonts, such as: fonts disappear from the application's font list and Windows' startup speed drops significantly. Obviously, too many fonts not only occupy more system resources, but also affect the overall performance of Windows.
In order to improve system performance, it is recommended that you delete fonts that are not used or are not commonly used.
To delete useless or infrequently used fonts, you need to know which fonts cannot be deleted. First of all, Song font cannot be deleted, it is the default Chinese font of the system; the screen font file (extension of .FON) cannot be deleted at will, otherwise the text in some dialog boxes will become garbled, and even causes Windows 98/Me to fail to start; ".SYS" is a system font, and these fonts should be used in system prompt information and icon descriptive text, which may cause system crash after deletion; and some symbols, such as Marlett, Windings and other fonts, cannot be deleted at will.
And do not delete fonts with these texts: Arial, Courier, MS Serif, Tahoma, Verdana, Comic Sans, MS Sans Serif, Symbol, Time New Roman, Impact, Lucida Console, Marlett, Modem, Samall Fonts, Webdings, Windings, Roman, MS-DOS CP437, script, SIMHEI, SimSun&NSimSun, Palatino, Linotype, Microsoft, MS.
In addition, many similar fonts are installed in Windows, which are unnecessary and almost impossible to use in many cases. Therefore, similar fonts can be found, and several of the most commonly used ones can be retained. Others can be removed using the following methods.
In order to avoid system failures caused by mistaken font deletion, it is worth recommending that the font is moved out of the "FONTS" folder and save it in another directory, such as "D:fontsback". Also create a shortcut for the file and place it on the Start menu or the Quick Start bar.
When using these fonts, just open the folder and double-click a font to display in the preview window. As soon as the preview window opens, the font is loaded into memory and can be seen in the Font menu of any application. Users can use this method to load a variety of fonts. After using these fonts, just close the preview window.
2. Use Font Frenzy to clean useless fonts
Font Frenzy is a free registered font tool. It can list all fonts installed on the current system, with the function of installing and deleting fonts, or move unused fonts from the system font directory to a specified folder, and create a font image file so that you can use the image file to restore to the font configurations previously installed by the system in the future.
If you want to delete all the fonts that are newly added after Windows installation, please first close all running programs, click the "Defrenzy" button on the toolbar, and then click the "Defrenzy Now" button in the left pane. At this time, a dialog box prompting for backup will pop up. After clicking the "Yes" button, the folder selection for saving the backup will pop up. Use the default folder directly and press the "OK" button. At this time, a backup snapshot name input window will pop up. Enter a memory name and click the "OK" button. The software will quickly move the font to the backup folder. If there is a problem, you can directly click the "ReFrenzy" button and select the previous backup snapshot to restore.
Of course, you can also take a manual method to remove fonts. First click the "FrenzySnap" button on the toolbar, then click the "Save Snapshot" button to save a snapshot, then click the "FrenzyMan" button on the toolbar, check the unwanted fonts in the font list (especially those Chinese fonts after Office is installed), and then select "Uninstall & Store Fonts:" in the left pane. After clicking the "Select" button, these fonts will be moved from the Windows Fonts folder to the Font Frenzy default font save folder.
How about it? With Font Frenzy, a good assistant, you will never worry about font issues again!
Their existence not only wastes our precious hard drive space, but also leaves a chance for viruses to take advantage of. Therefore, it is necessary to clean up the computer in a timely manner.
