5. Modify partition parameters:
Select the partition to be modified, press F11 to enter the modification state (as shown in Figure 2), move the cursor to the parameter to be modified, and type the value you want to set. After the modification is completed, select "OK" to exit.
Tip: This method can be used to adjust the start and end cylinder number, head number, and sector number of the partition, thereby adjusting the partition size, but it may cause the logical disk (data) to be lost. Users who are not familiar with the meaning of partition parameters should use this function with caution.
6. Rebuild the partition table:
When the hard disk partition table is corrupted by a virus or other reasons, Disk Genius re-establishes the partition table through the uncorrupted partition boot record information (mainly searching for partition table end flag 55AA). The search process can be carried out in two ways: "automatic" or "interactive". Automatically retains every partition found, suitable for most cases. The interactive method gives a prompt for each partition found, and the user chooses whether to retain it. When the partition table rebuilt automatically is incorrect, you can re-search it interactively. During the reconstruction process, all the searched partitions will be displayed on the screen in time. But it is not saved immediately, so you can search repeatedly until the partition table is correctly created before saving. The operation of this function is very simple, just select and execute the "Rebuild Partition" command under the "Tools" menu.
This function is the easiest way to repair logical disk loss failures, especially the "special medicine" that "treats" various hard disk failures caused by improper use of Pqmagic.
7. Rewrite the master boot record (MBR):
When the main boot record of the hard disk (located on the 0 cylinder of the hard disk 0 head 1 sector) is damaged and the system cannot be booted, this function can be used to rewrite the main boot record. Disk Genius will automatically check and rewrite the damaged master boot record. For new hard drives without a master boot record (MBR), Disk Genius will automatically create the MBR. This feature is located under the Tools menu.
8. Parameter check:
After reading out the partition table and updating the hard disk partition table, this software will automatically check the partition parameters, and give prompts one by one if it finds unreasonable parameters. You can also press F12 to check at any time.
9. Update the hard disk partition table:
After you complete the partition establishment or partition parameter modification operation, if the new settings take effect, you can press F8 key. This software will first check the partition parameters and write it to the hard disk after correctness, thereby updating the hard disk partition table.
10. View any sector:
Press the CTRL_R key, in the pop-up viewing window (as shown in Figure 3), specify the sector to view (the TAB key can be used to select cylinder, head, and sector parameters), and the "PageUp" and "PageDown" keys can turn pages forward and backward. Click the "Save As" button in the upper right corner of the window, and you can also save several sectors starting with the current sector to the disk file.
If your computer has a second hard drive, the "2nd hard drive" option will appear under the "Hard drive" menu. Select it to switch to the second hard drive. The same operation can also be used to convert to the first hard disk or other hard disk.
12. Backtracking function:
In order to prevent mistakes, Disk Genius does not save the partition table immediately (including creating, deleting, hiding, activating, modifying parameters, etc.), but only makes changes in memory. After you have completed all the changes, confirm that the error is correct and issued a save command, it will write your modifications to the hard disk at one time. But if you find that the goal is not achieved or even an error occurs after performing the disk write operation, will it be irreversible? Actually, don’t worry. Disk Genius has prepared a pair of “regret medicine” for you. For each disk write operation, before executing the disk write command, Disk Genius will automatically create a backtrack file in its installation directory to save the original content of all updated sectors during this run. Click "Backtrack" under the "Hard Disk" menu to restore the changed sector content in the hard disk to the state before writing to the disk. With the backtracking function, it undoubtedly provides another insurance for dangerous partitioning operations.
