Protect system security by disabling DOS windows through the registry

1. Disable MS-DOS mode

Sometimes for security, we hide partitions with important data, but other users can access this drive through MS-DOS. Therefore, for the sake of security, it is necessary to prohibit users from using MS-DOS, and the operation steps are:

Open the "Registration Editor", then expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WinOldApp" branch (if the WinOldApp branch does not exist, we can create a new one). Right-click the "New → DWORD Value" command in the right window of the registry, create a new key value named "Disabled", double-click the key value, enter "1" in the pop-up "Edit DWORD Value" dialog box, exit the registry manager after confirmation, and restart the computer to take effect.

2. Disable "Restart the computer and switch to MS-DOS"

There is a "Restart the computer and enter MS-DOS" entry in the shutdown item in Windows 98. If you want to disable this function, we can enter the registry, expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WinOldApp” branch, right-click in the right window of the registry to select the "New → DWORD Value" command, create a new key value named "NoRealMod", and set the key value to "1", exit "Register Manager" after confirmation, and restart the computer to take effect.
