In MS-DOS and below, it is a very important startup file. However, in the MS-DOS version, it has become a setting file, which is a bit similar and still has a great effect.
File settings
This article is for beginners, and you might as well try it if you forget it for a while. :)
Here are some settings in the [Options] block in the file in Windows 98 that I know. (The default values in each option are written in front)
[Options]
AutoScan=1/0
BootDelay=2/?
BootGUI=1/0
BootKeys=1/0
BootMenu=0/1
BootMenuDefault=1/2/3/4/5/6/7
BootMulti=0/1
BootWarn=1/0
BootWin=1/0
DblSpace=0/1
DoubleBuffer=0/1
DrvSpace=0/1
Load Top=1/0
Logo=1/0
WinVer=4.10.1998
AutoScan: Will ScanDisk run next time after abnormal shutdown?
BootDelay: The waiting time (unit: seconds) before the hotkey is pressed when booting, but I tried it myself, and it seems that there is no effect.
BootGUI: Whether to enter the Windows GUI interface at startup (otherwise it is the DOS interface).
BootKeys: Is the hotkey valid at startup?
BootMenu: Whether to display the boot menu at startup (otherwise, you have to press the hotkey to display).
BootMenuDefault: Displays the default item when starting the menu (i.e. the item where the cursor is located).
BootMulti: Whether to enable DOS (provided that there is an old version of DOS startup file in the boot disk, and this disk must be FAT16).
BootWarn: After failing during startup, will it prompt to enter safe mode next time you start (this is the most annoying, turn it off!).
BootWin: Whether to automatically load the old version of DOS at startup.
DblSpace: Whether to load on startup.
DoubleBuffer: Whether to enable double buffer support.
DrvSpace: Whether to load on startup.
Load Top: Whether to load part of the system core into high-end memory at startup.
Logo: Whether “Blue Sky and White Clouds” is displayed when starting.
WinVer: Needless to say.
Finally, let’s talk about the startup hotkey:
F4: Start the old version of DOS.
Shift+F4/Shift:Safe mode
F5: Skip and, but load (what is the difference from the above?).
Shift+F5:Safe mode command prompt only。
F8/Ctrl: Display the startup menu.
