Drive away the annoying Windows comes with "rogue folder"

In fact, although these folders have uninvited bad habits, not every folder is useless. For example, "The files I received" is specially used for Microsoft's MSN Messenger software to receive files directly from the other party. However, since we have long been accustomed to establishing relevant folders and putting them in the corresponding partition to manage these files, we naturally think that they are useless. After all, we still want to invite these uninvited guests out of our computer, but it is obviously difficult to work with the rough deletion mentioned above. We also have to start with the source of these folders.

In fact, the reason why these folders can be automatically generated after we delete them is actually very simple. They are all dedicated folders for a certain system component or application. Take "My Music" as an example. It is actually the place where the songs stored after Windows Media Player compresses CD songs. When we delete this folder for the first time, it will generally not be automatically generated. However, if we open Media Player to compress songs once, or just check the Media Player option settings once, it will cause the software to check the folder. If it finds that this specified folder disappears at this time, of course, it will automatically regenerate for the normal operation of the program. This is the real reason why we "can't delete them for a long time" of these folders.

How to get these "uninvited guests" out of the system?

After knowing the "real life experience" of these folders, it will be much easier to request them out of the system. The author will introduce to you the method of removing each folder.

“The file I received”—

Folder source: MSN Messenger receives files from the other party by default

Software version: MSN Messenger 7.0

Remove method: Click the "Tools" menu → "Options", and click the "File Transfer" tab in the pop-up "Options" dialog box. At this time, you can see in the window on the right that the default file saving location is exactly the "File I received" folder in my document. Click the "Change" button to move this default folder to another location. At this time, delete the "Files I received" folder in "My Documents" and you don't have to worry about it "coming back".

“My eBooks”——

Folder Source: Adobe PDF Reader's default PDF document management folder

Software version: Adobe PDF Reader 6.0

Remove method: Enter the "Plug_ins" subdirectory of the Adobe PDF Reader installation directory, type in these two files, move them out of the directory, and then delete the "My eBooks" folder from "My Documents".

“My Music”—

Folder source: Windows Media Player compresses CD into WMA files by default storage

Software version: Windows Media Player 10

Remove method: Click the "Tools" menu → "Options" in the main interface of Windows Media Player, click the "Rip Music" tab in the pop-up window, and then modify the default saving path identified by the red box to another location through the "Change" button, and then delete the "My Music" folder in "My Documents"
“My video”—

Folder source: The software that generates this folder may sound unfamiliar to you. It is called Windows Movie Maker. Its main function is to edit digital videos. This program usually exists in the "Start" menu → "Attachments → Entertainment" and is also very simple to use. However, since DV machines are not popular in China, there are very few friends who use this software, and the video files generated by this software will be stored in this folder by default.

Software version: Windows Movie Maker 5.1.

Removal method: It is not as easy as the above ones to remove this guy. It is not like the software introduced above. You can find the corresponding setting change command in the software settings, so we cannot prevent it from automatically generating folders by changing the settings. Moreover, as a system-owned program, this software cannot be simply deleted by the user through the "control panel". Therefore, except for not executing this software, there is no longer a method suitable for ordinary users to use. (Of course, if we do not execute the program normally, we can delete the folder directly in "My Documents", because even after deletion, the software will not check whether the folder is present and it will be automatically generated)

"Picture Collection"—

Folder source: This folder is probably the one that friends see the most. From Windows Me to Windows 2000 to Windows XP, it has been with us for a long time, and its source is different from several other folders, because it is the only one of the unique "royal blood" (the system comes with it)

Software version: Windows XP

Removal method: It should be said that this folder is quite convenient to use, and it has become the default picture folder for many Microsoft programs (such as Office series software). If you are not particularly needed, try not to delete it casually. Of course, if your determination is determined, just enter the following command "regsvr32 /u" in the command prompt state and press Enter, and then delete the "Image Collection" folder.

Tips】If you want to restore this function, you just need to enter "Regsvr32" in the command prompt line again.

[Tip] If you want to carefully understand the usage of the Regsvr32 command, you can browse an article on this website "Using Regsvr32 to Solve Windows Difficulties for You" /os/win/350/, where there is a very detailed introduction to this command

Written at the end

At this point, I have introduced you how to delete the "rogue folder". In fact, the so-called "rogue folder" is just a name given to it by the author. Each folder has its own purpose. Whether these folders are useful to you must be kept open. Don't "follow the crowd" and bombard all the folders, haha.
