Troubleshooting of printer failure

"Unable to print" is mostly caused by improper use, installation and settings of the printer. Viruses, damaged printers, and malfunctioning printer ports can also cause the printer to fail to print. If the printer cannot print in Windows 9x, you can check and process it as follows:

1. First check whether the printer is online. On most printers, there is a small light indicating the online status next to the "OnLine" button. Normally, the online indicator should be in a constant state. If the indicator light is not lit or is flashing, it means that the online connection is not normal. Please check whether the printer power is turned on, whether the printer power switch is turned on, and whether the printer cable is correctly connected.

2. If the online indicator light shows that online is normal, please turn off the printer first, then turn on it, and try printing the document again. This operation can clear the printed document data stored in the printer's memory and solve many problems, but sometimes this method will cause confusion in the print output and you need to restart the system before you can print normally.

3. Check whether the printer has been set as the default printer by selecting "Start/Settings/Printer", opening the "Printer" window, check whether there is a small black hook on the currently used printer icon. If not, right-click the printer icon, select "Set as Default" and set the printer as the default printer. If the Printer window does not have the printer you are currently using, double-click the Add Printer icon and install the printer as prompted.

4. Check whether the current printer is set to pause printing by right-clicking the printer icon in the Printer window, and in the drop-down menu that appears, check whether there is a small hook on the Pause Printing option (such as ^07030406a^1). If the Pause Print option is selected, cancel the hook on the option and print it again.

5. Type a few lines of text in Notepad or WordPad, and then click Print on the File menu. If you can print the test document, it may be that there is a problem with the program you are using. Please check whether the correct printer is selected in the WPS, WORD or other application you are using. If it is a print file generated by the application, please check whether the print output generated by the program is correct.

6. If the remaining space of the hard disk is too small, the printer will not be able to print. Please check whether the available space of the hard disk is less than 10MB. The method is to right-click the hard disk icon (usually a C drive) in "My Computer", select "Properties", open the current hard disk properties window, and check the hard disk space in the "General" tab. If the remaining space of the hard disk is less than 10MB, you must clear the "Recycle Bin", delete temporary files on the hard disk, delete expired or archived files on the hard disk, and delete programs that you never use to free up more space to print.

7. Check whether the printer driver used is suitable and whether the configuration is correct, by right-clicking the printer icon in the "Printer" window, in the drop-down menu that appears, select the "Properties" option, open the "Printer Properties" window, and check the following content in the "Detailed Information" option (such as ^07030406b^2):

(1) In the "Print to the following port" selection box, check whether the printer port is set correctly. The most commonly used port is set to "LPT1: Printer Port", but some printers require other ports.

(2) In the "Print with the following drivers" selection box, check whether the driver you are using is appropriate.

(3) If there is a failure when printing large files, please add the "Timeout Settings" values in the "Timeout Settings" column. This option is only valid for printers directly connected to the computer, and is not valid when using a network printer.

8. Check whether the printer port in the BIOS is open. The port used by the printer in the BIOS should be set to "Enable". Note that some early printers did not support ECP-type printing port signals. At this time, the printing port should be set to "Normal", "SPP", and "ECP+EPP" methods to try.

9. Check whether there is a virus and try using antivirus software.

10. Check whether the printer cable connection is plugged in tightly. Make sure that both ends of the cable connecting the computer and printer are plugged in tightly. If you use a printer switching device (such as a parallel scanner, printer sharer), please connect the printer directly to the computer without switching the device, and then try printing. If the device can print normally without switching, it means there is a problem with the device.

11. Check if the printer driver is corrupted. The printer driver is corrupted and the printer cannot be printed. You can right-click the printer icon, select Delete, and then double-click Add Printer, reinstall the printer driver, and then print again. If it works properly after reinstallation, it means that the problem is a damaged printer driver.

12. Check whether the printer has paper, ribbons and other essentials, such as whether there is paper in the input tray, whether the printer is jammed, and whether the powder cartridge, ribbon or toner is effective.

If the printing is still not possible after the above inspection, the cause of the failure may be one of the following three: one is the printer cable is broken, the second is the printer is damaged, and the third is the printer port is faulty. Printer cable disconnection and printer damage can be checked using the replacement method. If the printer is faulty, please send the printer to repair; if the motherboard printer port is damaged, you can install a multi-function card and close the motherboard printer port in the BIOS to print.

In general, it is not difficult to solve the problem of "unprintable" in Windows 9x, but you still need to practice it to troubleshoot the problem one by one.

The above is all the content of this article. I hope it will be helpful to everyone's study and I hope everyone will support me more.
